Vanity Tags - What's Your Best Idea? (Ends June 15, 2008)

I first saw pictures of this sweeeet induction system on a 2005 Cummins last November and I marveled at the beauty of the thing back then. Although all your products are beautifully engineered and executed, I guess I'm not too surprised about that. For keeping things cooler, cast is best. No paint or coatings to keep the heat in, please!

Not sure how I'll make out without a grid heater because I'm up in Alberta, Canada. But you know what, that is a small problem.

Another girl here - and I'm learning as I go, but I do own a grease gun and wrench as much as I can. I am a relatively recent diesel engine nut, but I read everything I can about diesel performance.

I know everyone here has good reasons to win this contest but here are mine, aside from the fact that its the best looking intake on the market:

  • As soon as it warms up and the 3 ft of snow are gone I'm putting on a big turbo. I'll need a good intake system to help spool it up, especially for bracket racing!
  • I'm good at detecting and describing even small changes in how the engine sounds and feels after every new thing I have added.
  • I keep the engine CLEAN and would love to show off this intake at events around the province - you know, to make the guys a little jealous. I don't know anyone around here with the Wilson intake. Although I do for a fact know a couple of guys who WANT one, LOL!

As an aside, are you thinking about extending your line of valve covers to the Dodges because they are nice too. Since you guys are so good at casting, what about double deep transmission pans?

Thanks for your consideration!

Goodies

I'd like to evaluate this product for a few reasons. First, my 13 years as a fighter crew chief in the Air Force has gotten me extra oriented/interested in performance products and attention to detail. Secondly, I want one. Thirdly, my wife rolls her eyes everytime I disappear into the garage to add another "goody" to my truck.

thanks for the oppertunity to win/try this product. no doubt it has all the makins of a kick -*** intake, but i'll be HONEST,if i were to change intakes at this time in my build it would be radical, not a shiny larger knock off of what i already have. i think i would buy Joe Hellmans hand made billet alluminum side air intake unit, but go ahead and TRULLY SHOW ME why i should change my mind. again, thank you for your time in reading my thougts------LA

I have had four different manifolds on my truck. I drive 400 miles a week and it has lots of mods. Thought i was done with intakes. But if i was to win one. Then i would test it daily and give exact results, such as mileage improvement, egt reduction, quick spool up etc.

Just an "average" TDR member.

I'm not a diesel engineer or a longhaul trucker that puts a million miles a year on his truck. I am a Dodge Cumins fan that uses his truck as a daily driver and for a much needed vacation each summer. As you can see by my signature, I have added a few personal touches to my ride. Some are just for fun but most are added to make a few more horsepower without sacraficing fuel milage or reliability.

I believe that an intake system is one of the areas where a cost effective modification should be explored. A chance to sample the Thrasher System would be a great opportunity for me and hopefully I would be able to share my results with other TDR members.

It would be my goal to report my results in a real world non-technical manner. I do have the ability to provide pictures of the install procedure. Basic milage results and 1/4 mile speed and times would also be provided. I would also be able to provide the more subjective items such as changes in driveabilty and overall performance.

Thanks for the opportunity of being considered for this prodject.

It is not that Wilson does not wish to make a product for you guys or even adapt it. The problem with the 2nd gen 24v trucks is that the fuel lines would have to be moved around since they interfere with the back of the manifold. For the intake to fit your trucks, Wilson would have to include new fuel lines to replace the which interfere making the kit more than it is.

Ok, that the reason for the 24 valve intake. What's the excuse for us 12 valvers who's search for improvement mods started long before these new cummers. I'm talking, 94 to 98, 12 valve CTD. Hope your working on one as we speak. There are a lot of us still running the best 5. 9 made. Thanks, Tom

Wow, what an awesome opportunity it would be to be able to win an outstanding piece of equipment on my '03 Cummins. I have used my truck for various farming needs, hauling cattle and hay. I think that it would be great to be able to add more horsepower and have better performance, then to be able to tell others just how essential it is to take the time and effort to make their vehicle perform to the best abilility possible. Thanks for such an awesome drawing... ... ... JBohannon

I’ve always been cautious about upgrading, wanting to honor warranties and maintain my 04. 5, 3500 truck’s durability and environmental footprint. So, I’ve never been too interested in electronic add-ons that would violate my warranty, degrade mileage or cause more pollution than necessary.

I have upgraded the exhaust system on my ’97, 3500 keeping the catalytic converter and a decent muffler, and was rewarded with about 25 more horses and probably 35 ft-lbs. Good free and legal power. My 04. 5 already comes with a better exhaust, so no rush to upgrade there.

The Wilson manifold falls in the category of an upgrade that should provide improvements, isn’t a snake oil product, and would not harm the truck or emissions. I’d like to have the opportunity to install one (especially for almost free!) and then compare mileage, power, temperatures and emissions. I would imagine that Wilson has already done their homework, but more real world numbers (keeping emotion out of the performance equation – but firmly maintaining the enthusiasm for the job!) would provide great feedback for them and our members.

May the best driver win!

There is no excuse for the 12 valvers. Banks came out with a twin ram intake more than 8 years ago for those trrucks. No need to re-invent the wheel. Also, you can search TDR in the archives for lots of 12v info. The 12v head has better air distribution than the 24v in my opinion. The only problem with 12v heads is #1 cylinder is the hottest. On the 24v, numbers 5 & 6 are at the disadvange since the air has to make a few sharp turns befoe entering the cylinder. Here is a picture of the intake:

Willson intake?

This is a new company and i always like new things. Yes please concider me for a new intake manifold i would shure like to win one. I would put it on my 20041/2 dodge 2500 4x4. I bet it would run better and look cool as well. Thanks BIGFOBIE

Doubletree

I would love to win and evaluate a Wilson Thrasher Intake Manifold. I have credintials to give an honest evaluation as I am a CDL instructor and have driven every kind of diesel engine on the market having been at it for the past 50 years. I now am retired and drive a 2006 Dodge Turbo Diesel Mega Cab 6 speed. I tow a 20' gooseneck stock trailer for ranch work and a 29' gooseneck RV trailer with a 26' pontoon boat on behind for play, which requires smooth power and a lot of it.

Thanks Larry

I'd be happy to write an evaluation of the Wilson Thrasher Intake system for TDR. As a testbed vehicle, I'll be using my very photogenic, red 2004 quad-cab 4x4. As it is nearly stock, my truck offers an opportunity to isolate the actual performance changes of using the Wilson system, without the interference of a host of other aftermarket parts.

Thanks for your consideration,

Scott Hooker

Thanks for posting this.

Let's see. Why am I the best person to evaluate a Wilson Manifold? First and foremost I own a 2006 3500 Dualie. Second, its got lots of Geno's doodads. Third, I would love a few more ponies out of my 5. 9. Most importantly, I'm too lazy to install it myself and I live close enough to Fort Lauderdale (I live in Saint Augustine) to zip down I-95 and git er dun for nothing.

With all best regards

I have an 06 mega-cab that i would love to try this intake on as I have done a few things to already to try to improve the fuel milage. Smarty, exhaust, afe intake, I also have access to a dyno-jet 248 that a friend of mine owns and I could do some before and after testing. If this is the kind of testing that you are looking for then I would be glad to help out. Thanks for the great web-site and magazine.

If I am selected/elected TDR field correspondent for this contest I will leave no stone unturned, be on time and under budget in pursuit of the truth! I promise you TDR will get its moneys worth! I will test the new wilson manifold to the best of my abilities with a before and after dyno test and a run through the winter without a grid heater. I feel I am fully qualified as I own the correct age truck and live near two dynos and have hand tools. P. S. Robin did you get that donation I sent you?

Thrasher Intake System

My name is Johnnie Bishop and I would like to be your next evaluator because I own a 2003 Dodge 2500 HD with the HO 5. 9-liter diesel that has 230,000 miles on it. I drive 70 miles a day and would like to see an improvement in my fuel mileage and power of the truck using the Thrasher Intake System.

Count me in.

Nothing I would like more than to add a real accessory to my 04. 5 truck. Other than the K&N and some nerf bars it's stock. Not that I don't want more but my 4 kids need to eat. As an engineer I feel I could give a technical evaluation without any of that damn emotional bias. :-laf
