PSM cold air intake system

I'm using the one off my AFE unit. I just took out my AFE stage 2 and went back to the stock intake and modified it like the PSM kit. I'm just waiting for the AFE super stock pro dry and cool blue hose to get here, then I'm getting a CFM+ and grid heater delete. Good luck.

Here's some pics of my home made air kit. Cost was about $10 from Home Depot. Shortly after install we had record rainfall in the PNW. I checked the paper filter every day for a week throughout the rains. Always dry. Since switched to the AFE IRF filter.

I live up in snow country with large drifts

I am wondering when hitting 3 to 4 ft high drifts if it will suck snow in the hose and clog the filter?

This is not a problem since the mod retains the stock fender opening as well



Had to find an alternative to the "toilet flange" -- just the name of it made me cringe!!

I used dust collection 4" hose and modded a fitting to mount to the air box. Also used a quick mount for a sweet looking hose terminator. All bought from Amazon.com --- see below

Great Ideas!!!... particularly since I run a woodshop and have 2/3 of those fittings. Got Pics of inside your airbox?? Id love to see how you trimmed and mounted the table saw hood to fit inside. Did you use silicone as well or I guess that's not necessary since the cuts are all on the "dirty" side of the filter.

I have the fog lights and I just let the end of the tube hang down and secured it to the bumper bracket with a zip tie. It hangs down to the bottom of the air dam.

Here are some pics of mine. I was using the aFe PG-7 drop in filter but was too lazy to clean it. I was also concerned that leaving it in w/o cleaning and re-oiling could lead to problems because the oil could dry up over time.



I bought an AEM drop-in synthetic media filter instead and like it because its oil-less (dry) and filters fine dust down to 1 micron.



I also have the DPP red cool hose and like it because its got a smooth interior, its insulated and it only has 2 hose clamp connections from the air cleaner box to the turbo compared to 4 clamps for the aftermarket CAI kits.



One more positive thing to think about is the very large cavity in the filter housing below the filter. Any moisture, rain, snow, etc would tend to drop out in the housing because of the very large volume which would allow the incoming air to slow down before it hits the filter.

Well, no rush at all or anything, but I was just wondering how far down you cut the dust hood and whether you mounted it inside of or down below the airbox and how you attached it. I do realize that this isn't rocket science, but I love to see other peoples ideas and mods. You could probably just descibe it, but you know a pic is worth ...

I would like to use the home made cold air method on my 2001, i see it looks easier on 2003 and up, cause air box up front, 2nd gen is rear passenger side, close to turbo, any ideas would be great thx. E

Am I over thinking this setup when it comes to the Turbo Discharge pipe? With the new airbox inlet hose exiting straight down I am thinking the slow moving inlet air in that hose may have a chance to get heated by the turbo discharge pipe if not insulated.

I did the home made one with 4" pvc (thin wall) I have the k&n cone shape filter and replaced the finned intake with a pc of 5" exhaust pipe. I guess it works ok, it also makes for a megaphone for the turbo and exhaust brake.

Used 4" round starting collar with some 4" high-temp aircraft flex tube that I had lying around. One of the easiest mods I've ever done.



Found egt's a tad bit lower and the air filter minder doo-hickey not pulled in at all! Very happy so far.

Just did this mod over the weekend. I have fog lights and so I removed one to run the flexible tubing to (just to see how it worked). I am running a (new) Fleetguard paper filter with foam prefilter and I am amazed at how it seems to wake the (otherwise stock) truck up!

I would like to find a way to clean up the look of the intake tube at the area where the fog light was. Any suggestions?
