Well, I towed with my Smarty Jr for the first time this past weekend. I have it set on 2 (towing) with everything else default. I was 17,080 pounds running Westbound down I-94 at 65 MPH with a 22 MPH headwind gusting to 30. That speedometer needle was painted on the 65. A couple long grades caused an overdrive downshift. The EGTs did their steady march to 1200 degrees, tapped the number and then started to come back down. I kid you not! I watched the EGTs on one long grade drop about 150 (1050) in the middle of the grade with "'Ol Gray" never missing a beat. I can't even pretend to understand how this happens when I used to run with VA C3. 1 and watch the EGTs sit around 1250 at times like this. This particular occasion also saw boost hovering around 27 PSI so I imagine there is boost fooling in the Jr. ????? So far, the Smarty Jr has exceeded my expectations. My fuel mileage sucked on this run. It hand calculated out to 8. 6 mpg. That's a lot of "brick" to pound through a 30 mph gust of wind at 65 MPH :-laf. Incidently, I got 13. 3 mpg coming home. That is a best with this combination. The prior was 12. 7. Had a bit of a tailwind so the jury is still out.
Quick thanks to all who PM'ed me with advice and tips and also a big thanks to Mr Bob Wagner for taking care of me.
