Well, I towed with my Smarty Jr for the first time this past weekend. I have it set on 2 (towing) with everything else default. I was 17,080 pounds running Westbound down I-94 at 65 MPH with a 22 MPH headwind gusting to 30. That speedometer needle was painted on the 65. A couple long grades caused an overdrive downshift. The EGTs did their steady march to 1200 degrees, tapped the number and then started to come back down. I kid you not! I watched the EGTs on one long grade drop about 150 (1050) in the middle of the grade with "'Ol Gray" never missing a beat. I can't even pretend to understand how this happens when I used to run with VA C3. 1 and watch the EGTs sit around 1250 at times like this. This particular occasion also saw boost hovering around 27 PSI so I imagine there is boost fooling in the Jr. ????? So far, the Smarty Jr has exceeded my expectations. My fuel mileage sucked on this run. It hand calculated out to 8. 6 mpg. That's a lot of "brick" to pound through a 30 mph gust of wind at 65 MPH :-laf. Incidently, I got 13. 3 mpg coming home. That is a best with this combination. The prior was 12. 7. Had a bit of a tailwind so the jury is still out.

Quick thanks to all who PM'ed me with advice and tips and also a big thanks to Mr Bob Wagner for taking care of me.

Dave

With my Smartyjr on ECONOMY, Torque MILD and Timing on 4, I got 22. 3mpg driving from Seattle area to Yreka, Ca at posted speed limits. Best I ever got stock was 19mpg

Motorhead, Gotta remember those settings and try them. Did you notice the engine making a distinctily different sound with Timing at 4? I noticed under throttle it made what sounded to me like the old "marbles in the mason jar" sound. I promptly took it back to Default. Anything to add here Mr. Wagner???

is there any general setup on smarty jr. to start working with ie. torque, timing, power setting for economy on 03, 305hp. i dont drive enough to find out
thanks gregg

DAVE, I came from a 2001. 5 second gen truck..... Now THAT sounded like marbles in a mason jar!! I DO notice it a little louder but I am VERY confidant that Marco wouldn't put in a program that would harm our engines. My EGT's are low. With the MILD torque, I get less smoke and it isn't as throttle responsive at low RPM.

Mine doesn't clear up fast at all... I can blacken the car/road behind me at will. This isn't a puff, but a full on stream until I get any boost over 20psi. Pulling the 5vr is even worse... if I hit a gear a little too early. If I stay 1/3 throttle or less, its fine.

I will try to play with the settings this weekend... Bob also suggested it. The owner's manual is not really clear on what settings do what.

I want a Mack Truck..... :(

I haven't updated mine to the new POD program yet "I like the original program enough" but I can lay a really nice cloud on demand but it clears up really fast too. In tow haul with a trailer I can lug it and cloud out the road behind me for as long as I want on a slight incline, that is on the towing setting but It will do it on economy also.

Are there any "deals" going on? Five bills a little hard to swollen right now.

Chris

Hey Chris, A little off topic (ok, alot) but how do like the Alpine stereo in your truck??? I've been looking for a stereo with the power of my factory but with Aux and USB on the faceplate. BTW, It may be a tough 5 bills and I hear you on that. I've been working 70 hours a week since October to get my toys but the JR is soooo worth it!

DaveOo.

Just an FYI, I figured out why I was getting most of my smoke... 2-stroke.

I have ran the last two tanks without two stroke and the smoke, while still present, is not anywhere near as bad as it was.

I'm going to drop it to every other tank, if I continue to use it at all.
