A friend/co-worker of mine is considering purchasing a 94-98 12V. I gave him tips/pointers/headsup about certain things, but I couldn't remember if the KDP was for the 12V in general or for specific years of the 12V?

I know for a fact it goes from the first generations all the way to the last of the 12 valves in '98.
I "tabbed" the pin on my '92 and '93 work trucks and it was too late on the '98. It came out and busted the aluminum front housing. I fixed it with JB Weld and silicone, Lock Tighted the bolts and it has been fine ever since. I would say ALL the 12 valve engines should be considered as a possible KDP problem, from 1989 to 1998.
nothing is safe 89-02. all the 12v need it done but they knew they had a prblem when they went to the 24v so they tried to fix it. but there were still some that were produced that did not have the blind hole. ive seen on here somewhere were there was a guy that the dowl fell out of his 02 so if it is a 12v it needs to be addressed but if it is a 24v you might have a chance.
I didnt know about the "53" block and bought one. After I had it a couple of years, I had a friend that had one that cracked. The one I had was a 99 and was a good pick but the thought of it cracking was too much. Now I am driving the 12 valves. The "53" were in the first 24 valves. Dont know what year they quit making them, dont think it was a high percent that were. The no. will be on the driver side under the injector pump, or mine was.
