Had the throttle linkage come apart on me the other day. Luckily i found a zip tie in the truck and was able to make a temporary repair. well after going to the dealer and finding the part was discontinued # 5080767AA I tried googling the part # and thought i found it. ordered it from a place in Texas and waited after a couple of weeks i went back on thier sight and signed on and found out that they didnt have it either! Does anyone have any ideals im sure thers experience on this with this group as they have always been a great source of information and ingenuity. I dont know how much longer the zip tie will hold out. Its the linkage that goes from the throttle position sensor to the back of the motor.

Thanks

A big truck shop might have something. Air ride control valve rod on the suspension and/or sleeper.

Even a John Deere dealer. They have ball joints on throttle shafts as well.

The Dodge throttle shaft is reverse threaded on one end. I had one break a couple years ago, part way up the AlCan highway :) A coat hanger wire fix worked temporarily.

If I couldn't get the OEM part, I'd take the two broken parts of mine and fire up the acetylene torch. Welding this would not be hard at all, if the torch wasn't 4000 miles away.

I just go to the local bearing supply and get a piece of 1/4" all thread rod and a couple of 1/4" heim rod ends and jam nuts. cut the all thread to the right length, put on the jam nuts and rod ends, use two 1/4" bolts and nuts to secure the new rod to the levers. Done! this will outlast all the plastic ball ends the factory uses. should cost less than $20. 00 . I do this to all throttle linkage on all my swaps.

With all the G2's out there I can't believe someone like foster truck can't get the ball stud fittings. That said, I had a tsb recall performed by a less than A-TEAM mechanic at the dealer and got stuck with a lost linkage 1/2 hour later!! when I crawled back to the dealer 'my' mechanic took a look and was furious at the install (basically said shop was at fault and they were lucky I didn't have an engine-control accident) he then proceded to tutor me over the next 30 minutes how to make sure the ball stud faces are clocked exactly vertically - otherwise as the linkage slides fore-aft the cups will work off the ball-studs. Also, never attempt to lubricate these linkages since their lining will degrade with many lubricants. (thanks Walter!!)

On the 97 that I had there was a recall on that linkage. Replacement was free with updated ball joints and rod ends! Look under tsb and recall list for your year. Moe

I carry a spare set. Help me remember to go out to the truck in the morning to see if the part number is the same as what you can't find.

there was 2 different throttle rods too. the latter the left hand thread went up in the rod on the rear end. as the earlier had right hand on the front and left hand on the rear.

I believe they were the same rods, just one was installed backward. I had three break before the recall, the first two under warranty. When I had to buy the third one and install it myself I opened my FSM and found the broken one was installed backward. I installed the new one according to the manual and never had another problem.

For the OP. A piece of good stainless steel wire stretched between the two balls will work better than a zip tie and last for a very long time.

well i had several pumps laying around the house and the ones from the 97 pumps were 1" or so longer overall. im not plumb dumb i could tell if it was just turned around backwards.

I think I still have the Dodge upgrade TSB kit in my parts box.

I can't believe that you'd let Ol' Sickly out of your hands and not do the TSB...

Shame on You Joe... LOL... ... . Andy

How can a part for a large TSB be discontinued

I dont know how this part can be discontinued when it is such a big problem.

Joe i dont know if you are interested in selling the kit but let me know. i searched previous post and found a guy canadian cummins that put togethether a truly 1st class piece and had all the part #s and measurments from a place midwestcontrol.com was going to price it and see how expensive that route was. Surprised that no one has started to manufacture one, most of the weak links in our trucks has been improved by one of the members. I want to thank everyone for their input and welcome any more.

Thanks

Dodge is going to fix it!!!

Well after finding a link here i ran the vin # and it said that the recall had not been done when i thought it had so i called the dealer and they said their records showed that it had been but Dodges did not so bring it on in and i askked him to check on the parts and he came back and said they would be here today so the trucks going in tomorrow to have it fixed. Better than having to lay in the 20" of snow we have here in Cleveland!! Im guessing the recall comes as a assembly with one part # where i was checking on just the ball ends.
