Wayne, I sent you a reply to your PM, you should have it now.

As far as your last post, as I read it, API checked for compliance to it's licensing program. Found some not in compliance, who "fixed" the problem and were subsequently caught breaking the same rule, too bad the report doesnt give the final disposition of the investigation.

"According to Kevin Ferrick of the API, "API did not require the removal of ANY of the oills of the nonconforming licensee from the marketplace while the testing was under way, during the enforcment action or later. "

11 out of 611 oils being out of compliance at testing time does not seem to be a major problem, atleast the oils are checked.

Of course, no oil was suspended while simply being test for compliance. This reassures me that the API certified oil I buy is randomly tested by API to verify continuing compliance. This to me, is better than buying an oil that only has it's manufacturer doing the checking.

Your post gives me increased faith in the API lincesing program!

RE: your PM to me, "TAXAS DIESEL,

I respectfully ask that you keep this thread at a reasonable level, by not calling people names or directly insulting others that do not have the same views as yourself. Not that you have done so, but just in case it gets to that point. "

I havnt seen any name calling on either side thus far and dont expect to see any either.

I thought it was TDR policy to have any vendor affiliation listed under the persons user name in the left column. If wmoody is an Amsoil dealer as this implies:

2004 slt 4x4 qc sb 305HO 48re mbrp 4" turbo back edge juice/attitude all Amsoil fluids and fuel, air, oil, filters. all tdr members recieve 20-30% off retail on all amsoil products.

Why isnt his vendor affiliation listed like all the rest?

I have used Royal Purple 15/40, Delo 15/40, Amsoil 15/40 and Shell Rotella T synthec 5/40 and like them all. I think they are all good Oils for what I do with my truck. I have been leaning to the Shell Rotella T synthec just due to it's lower cost and you can usually get it at Wal Mart. I use Fleetgard Oil & fuel filters from Geno's and change the Oil every 5k which is probably early but I tow heavy loads. For what it's worth... ...

The real reason I use synth is because the cold starts kill us in Alaska. The top rated oils argued about here all seem to work well for this. I have personally used an oil tester with royal purple (used RP), and new pennsoil. The used RP had 1/3 the wear of the pennsoil with the same pressure applied (metered) and same duration. That solidified the claims for me. I ran RP in my 94, and I'm trying Amsoil in my 06. I have not done the grind test on the Amsoil, but I"ll be sure to report if given the chance.

All oils you mentioned, are CJ oils except for one, Royal Purple it's still CI4 Plus thats the only one I use. Thank God.

Mac:rolleyes:

I keep all my trucks 500K and you can see I have several now... . I've had this habit for the past 25 years or so and with a business I've had a lot of trucks... I use plain old fashioned oil that meets fed and engine standards... we change the oil at 7500 mile intervals. . we do check it between changes... in at least 15 trucks, and several million miles, guess what, we've never lost and engine or had major work... just think of all the money I've saved over the years...

Gee, I run my small fleet just like Yellow Truck, Gordon Trucking, Roadway, the school buses down the street... . is that fancy oil really worth all the money??

I just gotta know. .

I would consider running the lighter sync oil in the colder climates in the winter or extended usage with the bypass filtration. But have been running dino Shell Rotella T for the last 15 yrs in the trucks and tractors with no engine problems. Ran Delo 400 40 wt before that with no problems but needed the anti foaming Rotella T when the Powerstrokes hit in 94 and just switched to it for everything we have diesel. I know $11. 50 a gallon is hard to swallow at walley world. Thinking about going to 55 gal drums that will get it down to about $9. 50 a gal.

Do run RP in the front and rear axles and transfer cases.

I would expect next to ZERO.

I have a 92 that I bought out of a junkyard for $300. 00. Sat for at least a year. 285,000 miles. It was bad. I drained the goop, filled with Walmart Special 15-40 for 100 miles, drained it, threw in good old Delo.

Thing runs perfect. No idea of the maintenance history, from the looks of the truck, not much.

I don't know if I'll Amsoil it not. Its got that far, but I might switch it out of spite. ;)

Great thread, I Love my posts, I RULE!!

Just a note, that 92 engine, I switched it to Amsoil when I swamped it in for a 99V-10. Quad cab short bed, AZ truck. Scrapped the rusty 1st Gen.

The 99 truck has 230,000 on it, the 92 engine nearing 350,000. (no problems from the switch. ) I've changed all the accessories, valve cover gaskets and rebuilt the vacuum pump. A set of New Era Diesel injectors and cranked the timing and the pump, Runs like a champ. Oo.

1yr/25,000 miles change interval for me. Costs me $90 using Amsoil oil and Amsoil filter. What do you pay for each 7500 mile oil change? Even if this way costs me a tad more I am using 6 gallons less oil that would need to disposed of and two less used oil filters that I need to worry about disposing.
