Have you replaced your VP-44? If so how many times?

I have changed out over a thousand VP's none of them mine. Out of all of those only 2 that I can remember were the second time. Both of those were comercial trucks with very high miles.

I replied no but mine has had a comp since about 40k maybe before currently 175,xxx miles and bigger injectors for a while and has been beat but still the stock VP

I changed the first pump at 230,000+ miles. I have changed 4 in the last 16,000, I think due to a very poor rebuilding process and of course they did not want to warranty the pumps. I just had a VP-44 die without throwing a single code. It would not pump enough pressure to pop the injectors. I replaced it with a Midwest, I pray I have better luck. I am not going to tap it for a couple of months.

Hmmm... lessee, I bought my truck with about 54K miles on the 2001 engine, original VP. Original owner... uh, experimented a bit with WVO, sometimes unfiltered. Told me he had problems with the fuel filter plugging up, but he'd wash it out. He dropped the tank before I bought it, cleaned it out, and it died on the side of the freeway three or four times on my way home. I swapped out the lift pump for a new one on the side of the road, did a couple of filter changes, and ran nothing but pump #2 in it from then on. At about 73K, the VP died and I replaced it. Also put a FASS in. No problems whatsoever since then, have 114K or so on it now, and I'm hoping to get a decent long life out of this setup. I think the short life on the original was definitely due to abuse.

Yeah, well, that's not the only thing up with it, lol. You should see the wiring!

It's ok, I went into it knowing how these things are. The basic build is solid. Of course, I haven't torn into the trannies..... hehe... yet.

Replaced at 183,652. Just replaced again at 186,152 under rebuilders warranty (MWFI). The computer had gotten intermittent and would miss and die and no codes. Don't know if they replaced anything else inside.

In the middle of changing the OE VP44 as I type this. Truck only has about 48,000 on it, tho has had two factory lift pumps changed out then finally dug deep and bought a FASS!

Just waiting for big brown to deliver it at the house;)

Mine failed a month ago in Death Valley; that was fun towing it home with my Dad's Toyota FJ. About 4 years ago the factory lift pump failed, and I had the Dodge dealership install the retrofit version in-tank (oops; that was before I discovered TDR). Sooo, even though the 4-year-old in-tank LP was still pumping strong, I sprung for a full FASS 150gph double-filter unit and an Industrial Injection "Hot Rod" VP44. I had the bed removed to access the fuel tank more easily, and since I had the retro-fitted in-tank LP, I had to order the FASS fuel pick-up tube kit (Kit STK-1001).

I just got it back last week, and WOW, what a difference already! The FASS kit came with enough 1/2-inch fuel line to replace everything between the fuel tank & VP44, and back to the tank on the return line. Now I can't wait to install uprated injectors and a new turbo to take advantage of the "hot rod" setup!!
