The past couple of weeks, not all the time, but after I stop at a light. When the light turns green the breaks are still holding on. I disconnected the ABS and thought that was the problem, but it still continues. If I turn off the truck then turn it back on... everything works fine. I have a fairly new master cylinder, new rotors help

Did you rebuild or replace the calipers when you changed the pads????

If you just pushed the brake fluid back into the master cylinder and didn't open the bleeder there is a good chance you've got other problems...

Are the boots in good condition, could their be dirt behind the boots causing the pistons to not retract...

Do you have rear shoes? did you have them open, perhaps the star wheel adjuster installed wrong?

There really isn't enough information to give you good guidance!!

How long ago did you change the master cylinder? If your booster rod is a hair too long for your master cylinder to fully retract, you can get slow releasing brakes. The rod is adjustable. Unbolt your master cylinder enough to get about an eight of an inch of clearance and carefully push it up against the booster mounting surface. If it feels like the rod contacts the master cylinder before contacting the booster flange, the rod needs to be shortened. All it takes is a small amount of mis-match to cause the brakes to hang up.

You may also want to look at the drums. Take the drum off and lay them on the ground. Place the shoes in the drum and make sure the shoe is contouring the drum perfectly. I had a set of shoes that I had to take off and grind the tops and bottoms. It would have been nice if I checked it prior to the original install. You may be able to pull the drums half way off and use a feeler gauge between the drum and the shoe. Good luck.

Try just putting the truck into reverse and inch back then go forward, if the brakes release the problem is in the rear brakes. If killing the truck is the only way they release I would guess the problem is at the master cylinder/booster. Have you tried lifting the pedal with your foot when they lock? bg

Booster is about a year old. The calipers and new too. They do not hang all the time. Going home yesterday it did it once... at the next light I shut off truck, restarted and went the rest of the way home with no problems. Drove to work this am. . no issues at all:confused:

Scratch my last. The issue I had, would not be corrected by turning the truck off and on
