White smoke at light throttle

I have a ATS Trans and the Co Pilot. Seems when I have the Co Pilot Set, on deceleration, with the pac brake on, at some point where it supposed to "let go" it starts clicking on an off.....

What I means is, I lift throttle at 60mph, and BWAAAA, the Pac Brake come on, and it slows down. But at the release point, say 35mph, it releases, then in 1 second, kicks back on, then off, and on, until it gets to say 30 mph... . you Know: BWAAA, click, BWAAAA, click BWAAA, click, etc... ... . and the whole time, the truck is jerking, the converter is locking, then unlock, and lock. (With the pac brake off, it is just the converter cycling).

On a hill, this could go on forever... .

Also, it seems if i turn the ATS Co Pilot off, it comes back on automatically, SOMETIMES..... when I re-start the truck. (I use it only when towing, because of the on-off thing, but it seems, after I use it while towing, I have to turn Co-Pilot back off for about a week, every time I start the truck, before it finally Stays off when I start it... )

could the TPS or something on the truck cause this?

I have a faulty Co-Pilot, but it isn't exactly as you've described. Depending on where I set the lock-up using the up-down arrows, it will send a confusing signal to lock and unlock the TCC when throttle is applied. The frustrating thing is that when I have it set with the blue LED all the way left (or close to it), the TCC locks up and the trans shifts rapidly up through the gears from first to O/D without ever building RPM or speed.

If I set it so the blue LED is all the way to the right or only the second setting to the right, it seems to work better. All shift pressures, TTVA and GPS are working fine, so it was the road test that revealed the Co-Pilot as the issue.

Here's the link to my thread: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ons-2003-2007/223810-48re-shift-problems.html

You could try to alter your lock-up signal and see if it corrects the problem. Seeing as you have an ATS transmission, perhaps they'll be able to sort you out under the warranty? I'm still awaiting a reply from the email I sent them.

Best of luck.

Man..... your going to laugh at me when I tell you this but I have/had the same problem with mine. Two yrs ago I isolated the problem to having the delay wipers on and using the Co-Pilot when it is raining. I can use wipers when it rains and it works perfectly but when it drizzles and I use the delay wipers..... that is when I have the problem. I simply don't use delay-wipers when it rains and I don't have the problem. It must be some kind of electrical interference but I'm not going to worry about it unless there is some sort of easy fix for it. I am going to follow this thread also to see what others have to say.

Hope this helped - Alan

Yep - I'm laughing. That's hysterical! I wonder what circuit is crossed to cause enough noise or interference to affect the Co-Pilot? Perhaps the shielding is insufficient or the power tap is wrong on the wiring? Who knows? At least you know the work around.

Generally Most problems related to the ATS units are the pins and the plug in harness. I have re-pin two or three over the Years.

Maybe the same glitch that causes the wipers to periodically come on and make a couple passes when I lock\unlock the doors with the remote? The wiper delay is some WEIRD stuff at times. :-laf

How have you grounded the Co-Pilot, chassis or battery?

Chassis! it works great otherwise... ... . only when I use the delay/wipers do I have the issue!
