Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 20 lbs boost - gate plugged

I was going to install a set screw in the elbow but found that the tube end was pressed closed. I only get 20 lbs boost and with the elbow closed off it seems I should get more boost.

I installed a Quadzilla xzt and the boost does go up way faster in the fuel/timing mode than when turned off or in the timing only mode.

I believe I have the HX35 ( stock ) and I do have a PacBrake if that matters.

Is the vacuum/press actuator opening by itself? I've seen an upgrade for the waste gate actuator but would hate to spend the money and find out that is not the problem.

Any Ideas?

If the ECM is still seeing 20# or more boost it will defuel regardless of add on enhancements.

There is also the possibility of a boost leak somewhere (#1 occurrence is the lower rubber boots on the intercooler getting cut by the fenders).

Have you checked with the e-brake turned completely off? My jacobs isn't opening all the way when turned on but not activated. It's like having the exhaust plugged and greatly restricts the turbo - over 10# boost with mine! I haven't fixed mine yet, just leave it turned off. It also smokes less and lower egt's.

I would presume that the Quadzillia has one. If it flaked out like my Edge EZ did...

Any box should have it built in because it is needed when fuel is added.

The XZT does have a boost fooler. I was told I would see higher boost pressure with just the extra timing/fueling but I still get 20 psi max. I found the the boost elbow is already plugged by the previous owner.

Is the waste gate opening because it is getting old and weak?

Can I secure the waste gate in the closed position to see if the booste will go over 20 psi as a way to see if the actuator is getting weak?

The waste gate does control boost pressure by releasing excess pressure into the exhaust or am I missing something?

Yes, you can wire it closed with bailing wire. First make sure the wastegate actuator rod is fully extended. I've seen some that go bad and don't close all the way, but that usually means sluggish engine response and lots 'o smoke.

Close. The wastegate, when activated by intake air pressure, opens a valve inside the exhaust turbine housing allowing exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine & go straight down the pipe, therefore stopping an increase in boost pressure/controlling boost pressure on the intake side.

Thanks, I'll check to see if the gate is all the way closed first. Then I'll wire it in the clossed position and see if the boost will go over 20 psi.
