I was under my new truck looking for the cord and could not find one. The only thing I could find was a round plug on the passenger side on the block behind the oil filter. Is this the spot where the block heater is supposed to be? I called the service dept. at the dealer and was told according to my VIN# I do not even have the block heater. Are these now an option? What was Dodge thinking?

Dont know about the the brand new ones but a few years ago they started with the block heater cord being an option (still has the heater, just no cord). That might be all you need. Found them for a good price at DSU in Kelso WA

can't have it both ways

its either an option or they charge you for stuff you don't want - can't please everyone. i built my from the ground up @ dave smith. the cord is available cheaper through cummins than the dealer. someone here posted the part number.

check tomorrow

I will put my truck in the shop tomorrow and check to see if the heater is there. Hopefully the cord is all I need.

The block heater is there, just no cord. Geno's has them about as cheap as anyone.

Stick

I believe Stick is correct. All Cummins engines have a block heater but Dodge started billing the cord as a separate line item on the order form when the ISB6. 7s were introduced. I had to specify a block heater cord when I ordered my '08.

Either the sales manager or whoever ordered the truck forgot to check the block for block heater cord or they did it deliberately to boost sales in the parts department.

I'd order it from Geno's.

This is interesting. I have this option on my 2010 Larimie, however can't locate the the block heater cord. The manual says it is "routed under the hood to the right side and can be loccated just behind the grille near the headlamp. "

It may be shipped in the box for the dealer to attach to the engine. I've forgotten.

It might be there but is a little hard to locate the first time you use it. You can usually find it attached near the front of the engine on the passenger side. It is an ordinary grounded three wire electric extension cord with a male three prong plug. It might be easier to locate by looking up behind and above the front bumper on the curb side.
