I noticed today that on my CAT 2 micron filter the date written on it showed exactly one year of use and the mileage on it is now at 130,000 and the psi is still good.

Godspeed,
Trent

If its internal combustion certified the pressure May NOT be a good Indicator,BC if it gets contaminate it will just bypass,or if the head has the bypass install and set at XX pressure. The only true way to check is gages just before and after the filter. keep the PSI within 1-2 or each other to determined if contaminate or free.

This truck had a FASS w/out filters when I bought it and it does run through the stock filter housing and a NAPA extended drain 7 micron before going to the 2 micron.

If he's running good fuel, it should take a long time and a lot of miles to plug a CAT filter... the one's I've seen are physically huge. Not to mention he's prefiltering the fuel it sees. I also want to remember the CAT fuel filters and heads don't have any bypasses on them.

I ran a FASS HF6604 filter a LONG TIME and never saw any pressure drop... before the FASS died this past fall, I had over 100k on the HF6604 that was currently installed. And further, I ran a 10 micron filter (about the size of a small coffee cup) for the same miles as a prefilter, and it never began to plug either.

It is my personal opinion that our fuel (short that occasional bad batch) is not that dirty.

So, has anybody ran a stock truck thru the factory 7 micron Fleetguard and thru the Cat 2micron setup on the stock in tank pump?

I would really like to add the Cat 2micron filter, keep the stock stuff in place, and run it all thru the stock pump... IF its capable.

I have the GDP 2 micron set up using the CAT filter on my truck. Filters between the stock ff and CP3, and replaced the fuel line also w/a big line kit. I have no problems running through the stock filter (5 micron Fleetguard) to the 2 micron to the CP3. It's been almost a year now since installed.

Factory lift pump working fine (8-9 psi WOT).

I have pestered the Hell out of AH64ID about fuel filters and I think he is running all his filters with the intank pump.

WOW!! I ran mine for 30K without a pressure drop and changed it.

I am not aware of any fuel filters that are commonly used on these trucks that bypass, they all will plug and stop flow.

I am running 3 fuel filters on my in-tank with good fuel pressure.

I would Agree on the rarely Dirty. . Water is By far the biggest killer to CR injection systems... I have poured garbage that would fill a coffee cup form the most popular filters and trucks were still running. I had 1 customer that had fass filters with 20% water that kill his entire injection system and the truck ran right up until it died and needed $8K in repairs.

Not surprising as until very recently the FASS filter on the 150 wasn't ever rated as a f/w sep by Fleetguard, and the 95 filter was rated for 50% free/0% emulsified water removal at a whopping 20 GPH.

I have the FASS 150 with the upgraded 3 micron filter going to the 5 micron filter in the stock location, I change them both every fall just for piece of mind. I try and drain the water out of the WS once every couple month (never seen any water come out)

I put on about 35,000KM a year, to me its worth it

ok, excuse my ignorance, but WHAT is the "big line" kit??? is this replacing the fuel line from the tank to the stock filter housing?

AH64ID, which Cat filter are you running? 1r-0749, 1R-0750, or are you running the new 299-8229 UHE Cat 6. 6 CR filters????

Wait. . what Fleetguard filter is 5 micron??? I was thinking that the fleetguard filter for the 06 models were 7 micron???

The 6. 7's have a 5 micron filter now (replacing the 7 micron about 1. 5 years ago), but I believe they came out w/ a 5 micron Fleetguard/Mopar filter for the 5. 9's. When they updated the 6. 7's. ?. ?. Also Baldwin has a 5 micron for the 5. 9's.

The big line kit replaces the stock hard fuel lines between the stock filter to the CP3 (3/8" line and fittings).

Baldwin offers the only 5um absolute filter for the 5. 9.

I have often thought an upgraded 07-09 6. 7 filter housing and F2 filter would be a great setup on the 5. 9.
