Just to be the dissenting opinion here. I never rotate on my duallies. My fronts wear off the shoulders in all the curves down here and the rears wear even. I never have to buy more than 4 at a time.

This is what Tireman says will happen when using his valve stems and I can concur.

Basically, you'll buy two sets of front tires for every set of rears.

With the load I carry on the rear four tires I am getting about the same wear as the front while rotating my front tires with the spare. I checked them with a tire guage while at the dealer this week and they all had the same depth of rubber.

Here is the rotation I use on my dually. My studded winter tires are directional. Even if they were not. Changing the rotating direction of studded tires, just throws out the studs.

A reason for a different brand spare tire might be due to limited choice when out traveling and a sharp metal edge on the spare tire holder wears a hole through the sidewall.

A reason for not rotating in your spare is that if all the tread on them is low and you get a rock puncture way back in on a forest service road on a front tire, you at least have a 50% chance of making it back out if the spare has a lot more tread.

I don't have the option to rotate all of my wheels as shown. I have aluminum wheels on all six locations and the brake dusk stains the inside of all wheels. Once they are turned one way they can't be turned and cleaned. The option below would be used for wheels with wheel covers.

I have a 2004 Ram 4X4 2500 that I converted to DWR complete with the proper 3. 70 Locker rear end. It was a project that I would never undertake ever again. However, on the subject of tire rotation this is what I have done for the past 2 sets of tires. Bear in mind that the front end still has the original OEM wheel setup. I check my tire pressure often and set it appropriately for the load. The rear set has the Budd style dished wheels. I do not rotate at all. Since I do a lot of towing my rear tires tend to wear out quite evenly and slower than the fronts. The front end has a free spin kit that did provide me with a 1 to 1. 5 MPG increase. However when I added the dually setup that subtracted the gain. Anyway, when the fronts wear down I purchase 4 new tires for the rear and install 2 of the rear take offs on to the front. When those fronts wear out I use the remaining 2 from the rear until they wear down. At that point it's time to buy another set of 4 for the rears and use 2 of the rear take offs for the front.

It has worked out pretty good so far. I am just clicking over 170K and are 1/2 way through my 2nd set of rears rears since the dually conversion. I installed the DynaTrac Free spin kit at 60k and the Dually conversion on the truck at approx 80k.
