If you put in some time on Google search you can find information on a homemade mod. I did mine for around $500.

I did the ford conversion. Here is the link to my write up. I love it. I wish I did it years ago.

Free running hubs is the best thing I have or ever will do to my RAM. ]
so what makes this such a great mod? how much did it cost and what do you think your saving? that makes this such a great mod.
i would love to have a 2wheel drive low range but looks like a very $$$ dollar way to get that done.

-2wheel low
-Added strength
-Eliminate unit bearings
-Ability to eliminate the CAD (added strength)
-Ability to install full size (Dana 60) axles (inner and outer)
-Less wear on u-joints, diff bearings, spider-gears, seals, front driveshaft and transfer case (2001-2002)
-Better mpg
-Ability to pack front bearings
-Added strength of Timken style bearings
-The Ford conversion gives you an added benefit dual piston calipers (way better)
-Ability to get out and lock the hubs "LIKE A MAN"
-Did I mention added strength.
If you only want 2wheel low, just get the Posi-Loc cable. Don't waste your money on the BD vacuum kit. It doesn't address the vacuum CAD issues.
I hope this helps.

I am getting 2 mpg better now. Total cost was 3k for parts and installation. On my next trip from NC to CO and back will be 8,000 miles.
At 8,000 miles at 2 mph better I will save $536. 00 a trip. 3 trips next year after I retire will be $1,578. 00 saved in one year plus wear and tear on front tires, ball joints, gears and u-joints. Install bill pay for itself in 2 year
s for me.
