Got a flat this morning on my way in to work. #@$%! It was the right rear that went. Got the spare on (not a fun thing to be doing at 4:30 in the morning) and went to work. On my way home this afternoon, I noticed the rear end feeling a little grabby when I accelerate from a complete stop. Once I get up to about 25-30 mph it goes away. I run 285's but the spare is the factory 265 and I'm thinking that the rear end is not liking the two different size tires. I know it's not good to run 2 different size tires on the same axle, but I don't have a choice. I have to run the spare until Tuesday when I go to the tire shop for 4 new ones. So I am thinking about rotating the spare to the front. Because the front isn't under torque (unless I put the 4x in) I'm thinking the front diff will be more forgiving. Or will that make the front end a little too squirrely? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

if you get a flat in the rear, you are supposed to take the front off and swap for the spare to the front... ... . that would be my problem... I run 285 and my spare is a stock tire. .

All I had to work with this morning was the jack and tire iron that came with the truck. Doing a swap like that was not an option. I really need to get a new saddle box so I can put my tools and a real jack back in the truck. It would have been soooo much easier.

sure. . dont think of those things until you are stuck on the side of the road... . I carry tools for my tire change, but just the factory jack... on trips I have a milk crate with a bottle jack and a bag full of tools, just in case. . but I also dont let my tires get too old or worn out... Id rather spend the money and never have to do a tire change... my bfgs never let me down yet... knock on wood... . :-laf

You sure are right about that! My problem was that I had picked up a nail. I only found it yesterday *AFTER* I had called the tire shop about my new tires. The nail looked like it had been in there a while and it didn't make sense to patch a tire that I was going to get rid of in a few days anyway. So I rolled the dice and well... Lady Luck left my side. The BFG's are good tires. The first set of those I ever got was on an old Dakota I had (before I graduated to diesel). I smacked a curb really hard with the left front tire one dark and rainy autumn evening while running errands. I checked it when I got to my destination and it wasn't leaking air so I didn't worry about it. A few weeks later, I went to get in my truck one day and I noticed that something didn't look right on the tire that I hit the curb with. I knelt down to find an 8" crack running around the side wall. At the crack, I was able to pull the rubber back and see right into the steel belts. I ran it for another week that way before I replaced the entire set (they badly needed to be replaced anyway) and that tire never lost one pound of air. Sold me on them right then and there. Ran BFG's right up until I got the Silent Armors I have now. The reason that I switched was because I was able to get the Silent Armors cheaper than the BFG's and I was told that the traction on the Silent Armors doesn't fade as they wear like on the BFG's and they don't. I've got 51K on them and I just started noticing a bit of a traction problem within the last 1K or so. I decided to go with a set of DuraTracs next. If they wear lilke the Silent Armors, I'll be happy.

If you plan to drive any between now and Tuesday, I'd encourage swapping that spare to the front.

You're killing your limited slip the way you've got it now.
