Californians going to be happy

I'm on the hunt for some CI-4 oil for my 03. I have been using Amsoil, but it is just crazy the amount of money they want for it. The local wholessale club has Rotella 15w40 for 38 bucks for 3 gallons Amsoil is 4 times that! OUCH.

So I guess my questions is are you guys/gals using the new CJ oil or do you know of a secret stash of CI oil? If there is a stash somewhere could you let me in on the secret!!!:D

Thanks!

Brian, You should be running 25K miles on your DME or AME oil. That makes your Amsoil about at least half as expensive as any petro oil. Get your BMK21 bypass installed too. Its cool having that gigantic filter cleaning your oil all the time.

The problem is my truck is my daily driver and I only do about 50 miles a day in a mix of about half being stop and go and the other half highway. The truck gets to full temp about 2 min from work in the morning. My commute is pretty tough on oil and I'm already doing 10k intervals.

Edit: I'm only putting 12-13k on my truck a year! I used to be 25k, now we use wifes Jeep for long trips.

Do you have any oil distributers in your area" that will sell to the public? Look in the yellow pages under petroleum distributers and make a few calls. 5 gals pails and 50 gal drums might be the only way you'll get it. You'll not find it on the selves retail.

Might check the farmer/rancher stores they might have it.

I live in NJ! 30min form NYC!!:-laf

I will call around! Thanks for the idea!!

The store I was trying to remember was Tractor Supply/TS. They pretty much are all over the central and east areas. The other was a tractor sales/supply place.

I get CI4+ that doesn't meet CJ spec from my local Chevron distributor in 5 gallon pails. The pails are nice to keep afterwards since they are 90 mil thick instead of the 70 mil that Home Depot, etc. sell empty.

Mikey, how does the price compare from those guys?

It' comparable in price to buying 5 1gal jugs of Valvoline CJ-4 at Wal-Mart when it is NOT on sale! :-laf

I bought a couple 5gal pails of DEO from Wheeler CAT on Wall Ave. in Ogden for around $90 ish after tax... Yea, I already know it's $18+ a gallon, but It's worth it to me for the added protection...

I also use a Frantz bypass filter to help keep it clean longer. AmsOil bypass kits will also work wonders in this department!!

Dino oils of today can last quite a while if they are kept free of contamination

I have switched to Cat DEO 15w-40 since it is the only "GOOD" oil that I can find locally. All of the emissions crap that we are blessed with forced all of us to be stuck with crap oil.

I was quite surprised with the results of the testing in that Delo 400 holds both positions of best and worst oil. And I noticed that AMSOIL is not "liquid gold" The low emissions CJ-4 oil is about the only thing you can find anymore.

If you plan to keep your truck for a long time, then choosing an oil based on whats in it instead of whats printed on the bottle and a bypass setup of any kind is a good idea.

Bought my last from oil distributer for about $50 for a 5 gal bucket. Carson oil in Portland OR. May be kind of a long drive for you. :-laf Understand you can’t get CI-4 in quart size from local stores. At least I haven't found any.

It's $81 for a 5 gal bucket at that local Chevron Distributor in Albuquerque. Not cheap, but my truck's worth it.

Brian, where youre located, I cant believe you cant find the oil you want.

There's heavy equipment, industrial and truck places everywhere around you!!!

I tried two places in Paterson and one place down by Giants Stadium and they only had 55 gallon drums. I am going to stick with amsoil, there is no doubt it cost some bucks, but I am going to start having the oil tested to see how far I can go on amsoil before changes. If I can get more than 10k out of it I will stick with it.

What is the part number from Napa on this Valvoline PB Classic 5 gallon jug. If I just ask for it by name, they look at me like I'm a quack. Maybe they're right. ;)

Look at the receipt if you still have it and let us know.

Thanks

I called Ashland/Marathon customer service about a year ago and was asking about their "classic" oil that was CI-4+ and they told me that it was discontinued due to lack of sales.

The only CI-4+ oil that I've been able to source locally is CAT DEO 15w-40. It works for me and I get a warm fuzzy feeling from not seeing CJ printed anywhere on the label!

There is also the option to order Delo (in bulk), marine oil from Mobil, or Amsoil if you can afford it :-laf

Same - get Delo 400 CI4+ from a local Cummins HDT repair & service facility.

*Only* avail there in 5 gal pails.

(Plastic one gallon containers are CJ "LE")

I found Delo 400 CI4+ 15w40 for $66. 00 plus tax for a 5 gal pail at Big Bear Petroleum on Edith Blvd in Albuquerque.

I plan on getting two 5 gal pails tomorrow.
