Never bought a new one in my life. Thinking about buying one. ST work truck for my business 4wd . 392, power group, clearance lamps. What is the advantage to buying the diesel. if you look at my sig. all my current trucks are diesel because they are simple and easy to work on and actually don't have that many miles. Please let me know your thoughts on the new truck gas vs diesel. Thanks.

For a business truck, you need to seriously consider the engines duty cycle.
Will the truck be idling a lot?
Will the truck be towing?
Will it have a service body, or weight in the bed a significant portion of the time?
Will it be driven in the city more than open roads/highway?
To be headache free, the truck needs to be worked most of the time.

There isn't much advantage to buying the diesel any more unless you need the power. There was a clear advantage on my signature truck. I didn't really need the diesel, but wanted it and its fuel economy advantage. I rarely use it for its intended purpose.

If something happened that I had to replace it, I'd go with a 1500 Hemi with its cylinder deactivation system and that will probably get better mileage than a new HD with the diesel- for many thousands of dollars less and without the complicated emission control system.

That is what my brother did after driving diesel Fords for nearly 25 years. His duty cycle wasn't good for a current model diesel with its complicated emission system. His troublesome Ford F250 4x4/6. 4L diesel engine was enough to make him change to a never before Ram 2500 4x4/Hemi. The fuel mileage is about the same with much less maintenance cost.

wrichards, it looks like you have some work trucks there. With a heavy load the gasser economy will drop like a rock. That's the diesel advantage, if you work your truck like it looks like you may, you will be ahead of a gasser in many aspects. jmo.

Although Ford had some half-way decent diesels along the way, that 6. 4 was a real fuel guzzler in addition to whatever other issues it may have had. At least the Cummins will last long past the warranty and you can work on it yourself without removing the cab.

Yep, he had a 6. 9L IDI and a 7. 3L Powerstroke and put well over 200,000 miles on each with relatively few problems. I advised him to stay away from the 6. 0L and he did, but by the time the 6. 4L came out his old 7. 3L was about used up. He had to have a replacement truck and being a Ford man...

Not only was the 6. 4L giving problems, the Ford part was giving problems too and he was sick of it. Now there's a Ram/Hemi in his driveway.

My 03 and 05 have been great Trucks. . Just to give you some idea what your up against. The 03 is built and is unbelievable good condition Mileage 134K. . I was offer $35K form a 100k yearly hauler( I turn it down) then he he offered $26k for the 05 I turned that down also. . Both these truck cannot be replaced with current version 6. 7. I just took Home 2012 1500 Hemi with every option except Ram Box Crew Cab. . I have only put 160 miles on. . its no cummins. . But I will hold out until Ram brings something to the Pavement with cummins I don't spend 10 hrs stripping lose warranty and cost $4K in parts and power. . the 6. 7 stripped is a step up form the 5. 9 but factory current version is designed & cost is for professional use.

O about 1 month... . It is custom built for towing. . Yep new it was $32K in Oct 2002. Rides and drives ,Pulls better than anything NEW. It has lots of goodies. the gage packages shows form axles temps to oil temp. . and with the IQ its over 50 different viewing. . One of My favorites is Grade.

Baloney! Have you owned/driven/towed with a new one?

Yes... ... No comparison,You have some challenge in mind? HB I have pull with trucks you could only wish YOU had. Do you want some more mud in the face. . My partners 08 LMM D-Max (Built) will out pull your 2008 factory Cummins. You except as great every Cummins motor build BC it say Cummins. Your Just pissssed BC someone pee on your beloved 6. 7. :-laf the 6. 7 is great engine after striping. . More Maintenance, less mileage, service intervals half the 5. 9. . is stepping back-wards. The 68re have proved to be weak when adding power another bill twice the cost of 48re build. . although the Asian has prove to be holding well,Sorry HB the 6. 7 (Factory) version does NOT meet my standards. . I do see changes in the Future,at that point I will re-visit Purchasing NEW.

I only have a little over 200 miles on this truck But as You can see I am already modding it. Its rides nice the power is good (For a Gasser). It has every option except Ram Box and CC. I filled today and hand calculated the mileage 15. 2 city / Hwy,the ride & handling is unbelievable.

Are you familiar with the word blowhard? You don't own one and as usual, don't know what you're talking about.
