Insulation blanket under hood

The insulation blanket under the hood of my 2005 is saging badly. Want to leave it in place if possible but don't want to pay what the dealership would want for the part. Anyone tried to "glue" it back in place? What did you use to glue it back in place? Is temperature a concern since it is so close to the engine and a lot of heat? Thanks

You could try this 3M Super 90. I have used Super 77 in the past for different applications, works pretty good. My 03 has no such insulation.

When mine started doing that, it was becuase som e mice had started nesting underneathe it... . I just removed the whole thing 2 years ago.



No more sagging with no additional noise (at least in-cab), and no more place for the mice to nest, and no burnt paint (these motors do NOT put off alot of heat)...



All that being said, if I DO ever want to replace it, I will use one of these--

I HAVE spoken to the guy at one point, and he will make one for our trucks at the same price, even though he does not have it listed.



Ypu MIGHT evcen be able to get him to do a ram or a cummins decal if that is what you wanted, but I wanted just plain.

If the OEM mat can't be glued back on with body shop grade adhesive like the 3M Super 90 mentioned above try removing it, cleaning the underhood surface, and using adhesive to secure a sheet of Dynamat cut to fit.

Dynamat, if that's the correct brand name, is what hot rodders use to insulate modernized hot rods and classic cars with engine replacements. It's reflective shiny aluminum on the outside of bubble wrap. I believe it's very durable and effective although a bit pricey.

Didn't realize that, just posted the link from my bookmarks. I do hope that he recovbers and keeps making the hood liners... they are quite nice and a good deal and $80.

You could try 3M super weatherstrip adhesive and some plastic "christmas trees" which are nail shaped fasteners with small "wings" along the stalk so they can be pushed into holes in the hood bracing and will be retained in the holes.

There was a recall out for it sagging and possibly causing a fire, I had one replaced on one of my earlier trucks, check with your dealer. Might be a free fix.

Mine did the same thing I pulled it down wiped it off with some kind of cleaner the wife had in her hand at the time and used the 3M 77 put it back up and its yet to come back down???? I didn't spray the entire hood just the places that it was sagging. I have use the 77 in other applications and went to remove it later ITS A SOB to get off!!!

Nope, it was the hood insulation, could fall on the turbo and possibly cause a fire.

When I shot some of the 77 on, I also added some new and better (thicker plastic) of these than what came OEM just drill a hole in hood cross bracing locate with a nail and push in, For the price of the better snap in clamps it might have added 2k to the price of the truck if the factory were to use good parts. Seems as thou ALL car companies are looking to sell you the product and get it off the lott but could care less after that.

On my neighbors he added a 1/8 x 1" aluminum strap across the rear (cowl) end and attached it with a fastener similar to the one above. Just drilled a couple holes in the cross bracing. He did add touch up paint in/around the new holes before putting in the fasteners. It now holds better than it ever did.

Safety Recall #737 -- Outer Dash Silencer Pad and Heat Shield



This is the only recall I found (1997) that involved a pad possibly contacting the exhaust.

I did tons of them about the same time as the c30 and c44 Some came in and got all 3 but I can't find any doc's now either very interesting

It was an odd shaped and bent piece of steel with I beleive about 3 mounting holes and used self drilling hex head screws. As awkward as the install was I remember that part well
