I'm a bit of a noob on water/meth so apologize in advance for the question: So if all I wanna do is get a little more HP and lower EGT when towing without over-taxing anything or pushing any factory components above their limit, can't I do that with a water/meth on my '06 CTD? What problems am I inviting further down the road and does the gain not make up for any detriment that is added by its' installation?

My take on the meth (I've run in it the past) is that at sane levels it really doesn't add much power on its own, but it does help to lower EGTs well. (Which means you can add a bit more fuel...) The key is to not get greedy and turn it up too high. Cost me a motor to learn that lesson.

Why do you want to add this to your new truck? The days of Mod's I think are behind us, these trucks have more power than anyone really needs right off the lot.

Than anyone needs..yeah, nobody needs a vehicle that goes over 80mph. Nobody needs a vehicle that has over 250hp/500tq. Lots of us want to have a vehicle that can do more, and it's all the more fun to have a 1 ton Diesel truck put a high end performance car to shame.

Water\Meth is not a power adder by any means. Niether water nor methanol has the BTU's that diesel has and replacing them with diesel just cuts the amount of power generated on a combustion event. Even cooling the combustion event will drop the power and cause other problems with cylinder pressures.

I have (had) Dyno sheets that prove those statements wrong. +65hp/130tq and lower EGTs. My trips into the mountains running a 25/75 mix (Methanol/Water) keeps my EGT's under 950 holding 65 - 70mph climbing I-70 to Eisenhower east and west (7% grade IIRC and 11k feet elev). Been running it in my '02 since Snow Perf got into Diesels. One of the first 20 members here to install it. 100hp injectors, Edge EZ on "high", AFE intake - everything else stock engine wise.

Miss the part where I said "sane levels"?

Sounds like your kit is well engineered and is working out for you. I may put my kit back on at a later date, but I won't ever go over a 25% meth mix again.
My point was that it works, but more is not necessarily better.

HB- As I recall, it was the "Internal Combustion ENGINE", and "Electric MOTOR" from back in my autoshop days... Hence, the "Motor Vehicle Manufacturer" thing makes me think that we are being encouraged to rejoice in the Hybrid and Plug in vehicles. Lord knows the greenies in my neighborhood love them

Roostre - Well, if by "Sane Levels" you mean the 25% mix, 65hp is still about what you get out of an Edge EZ, or Marco's Smarty for the 2nd gens. I'd call that an appreciable gain.

My truck's current config has yet to be dyno'd, so I have no idea what the control difference is between with, and without it turned on now. I do know that my EGT's are still kept low, albeit it runs a lot more with the twins (maintains a higher cruising boost level) when climbing.

I had great luck with my 02' Rams Snow System. I was a Snow fan since I had it my my 02' for years. I put their latest and greatest MPG Max kit on my 2009 and two years later it malfunctioned and flooded cylinder 6 while the truck was parked. I ended up with a $4300 bent rod repair and over a grand in a kit plus labor that I would not give to my worst enemy.

To make matters worse the folks at Snow would not even talk to me on the issue and what could have gone wrong or needs to be fixed. Jake Snow told me Matt snow would contact me about the issue but that was four months ago.

You would think they would want the system back to see why it failed to help protect others but that is clearly not the case. I'm going to be talking to the folks at Banks about their system.

THey don't put Pyrometers on big rigs anymore which is the same reason you don't have one. the computer monitors EGT if it gets too high it will cut back power. If you want to watch it get an Edge CTS and you can monitor other parameters also.
