2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Dana 70 gears

I visited a shop today to talk about having a different gear ratio put in my '02 Dodge 2500. Donnie explained to get a quality ring and pinion set (duh). I was searching online for a set of 3.55's to replace my 4.10's. In my search some of the sites stated gears sets for particular years and they stopped at '01. Does my '02 take a different set? Also, any recommendations for a particular brand?

Is your truck an auto? Auto trans were the only trucks that came with a Dana 70, should be 32 spline axle shafts. Truthfully if I was going to spend the money on new gears my personal preference would be 3.73s. Gives you a happy medium of the 4.10 and 3.55, you've got a better mechanical advantage and better mpg's while towing and the gearing is not too low that it kills your unloaded fuel mileage. I've got 3.55s and they are too tall of a gear for moderate to heavy towing in my opinion, but I've also got taller tires.

I'd trade a good set of 4.10s for my 3.55s in a heart beat.

I would not give up my 4:10's. In those years to 4:10's are the best with auto, particularly if you tow! Anything taller and you will be out of OD a lot when towing. You must have a 2x4, as you did not ask about the Dana 60 up front. If you want to cruise better on the highway put some 285 or 315 tires on it!

I used to tow a 10k pound race car trailer. I don't hardly tow anything that heavy anymore. My primary concern is rpm at speed, and fuel economy.

You might find someone with a 3.55 set that you can trade rear ends with (and front if 4x4). I would've made that trade in a heartbeat on my old 97.
