There is no set pressure cavitation becomes an issue, too many other variable slike demand and liquid consistency determine that. As a general rule when stepping up pressures with gear rotor pumps each pump would have 1/4 to 1/3 of its output pressure as input pressure. Doesn't mean they won't run with less just that they run longer with about that head pressure.

The early dmax pumps are a good example of this, their main failure is\was cavitation induced failure of the pump and injectors.

I put the scan tool on at the shop and i was around 4700 starting so i put a new lift pump on and it went back up to 7200 it starts with 22psi idles at 17 and wide open 9

I was also told it should help with my extreme cold start up i would have to give it a sniff of ether when it was below -5 out

Think he is talking about he LP affecting start-up rail pressure.

Exactly! A stock pump might make 12 on the top end, most are 9-10.
