Hello, i want to update my Ram with cummins 5.9 and 48RE and 4.10 ratio and stock michelin tyres (265/70-17) and i want to keep this tyre size, i'm a daily driver and i use the truck for travels only, i need to cruise with less rpm, i think the 3.42 ratio would be the best option, but i wanna know if i'll can setting up the speedo after this change.-

From front wheels ABS??? i wanna know if i can fit a 3.42 changing only the ring and pinion in a 2007 5.9 cummins with 48RE?????

It hasnt diff lock front and rear neither, front has a 9.25 with 4.10 and rear a 11.5 and same ratio, my truck is a 2009 here, but i think in the usa would be a 2007, i wnat to know if the 3.42 ratio pinion a ring can fit in that diff just like that. The speedo i'll have to setting up anyways because the spin inthe ring gear will change the speed rotation

He's talking about anti lock brakes, 2009 is 2009 no matter where you live.

Yes you can change it, you may have to buy a tuner to change ratio in computer, or dealer can do it.

No programming is required on any 3rd gen for a gear change.

It appears he is in Mexico with a 2009 5.9L and a 48RE, hence the 2007 comment... but the front and rear axles are the same.

You don't have to do anything to the computer if you change rear end gearing and the speed is taken off the pinion.
You do have to alter the ECM if you change tire size.

The speed is taken from the signal generated by a tone wheel (toothed wheel) on the rear axle ring gear carrier. If the new ring gear will bolt to the existing carrier, no recalibration for axle ratio change is required - the computer is measuring rear wheel, not driveshaft, RPM and converting that signal to road speed.

Just to mention it, I think personally the 3.42 is to long for the 48RE. I prefer the 3.73 in this configuration.

i'm not mexican!!! i'm from Argentina. Now i need to know if i can use the same differential carrier (with 4.10 stock) with the new 3.42 ring and pinion???????????? That is the big question!!!! i was wondering that because the 12 teth pinion head is too big instead 10 teeth pinion and the new 41 ring must to be slimer than old.-

I would call or email Randy's Ring and Pinion, but I am pretty sure the carriers are the same on both OEM axles.

Hey, I was close.... It's not a U.S. model. :)

You can, the AAM Axle uses the same carrier for all axle ratios.

The lower HP and gearing of the 5.9/48re will not get the intended results of better milage. Only the perfect conditions, no head winds, flat roads and down hill runs will give the OP better MPG. The trans will hunt for the right gear as if he was climbing a grade, which is very annoying.
