What about the factory setup? I removed mine but the were frame mounts and seemed pretty stout.
The factories do not attach to the frame, only the rocker panels.
The factory steps on my 15 were attached to th FRAME with nut serts.

To remove, you had to drill them out?
Nut serts or riv nuts are a 1 piece threaded insert that is swaged into a hole. The fastener threads into these. Having cleared that up I went out to the truck and looked again. My memory has failed. The riv nuts are in the upper part of the rocker panel. They support the majority of the wt. there were also 4 holes in the pinch weld. It appears to be quit stout but definitely NOT in the fame as I first said. If only this was the 1st time I've been wrong( today) I'd be a happy man. Sorry bout that.
Do you have any pictures of the ones you removed? I have a 2015 SRW 3500 and mine are mounted to the cab. Not very sturdy!
White Knuckle Off Road makes sliders that mount to the frame that can double as nerf bars. I made a set similar to there's a few years ago. They will never sag.
