I have a 2006 2500 MC, and I am on my 5th Power Steering Pump in 1 year. The repair shop used bad reman pumps and purchased the latest Dodge upgraded pump and reservoir for the truck. That is now on the truck and the steering is great. However it keeps burping fluid on the belt causing a sweak. The belt and pulley's are cleaned and then it will do it again the next day. When you take the cap off the reservoir has pressure. Why would the reservoir have pressure?

I would say it still has air in the system. Jack both front wheels off the ground and while the engine is running, turn them about twice, lock to lock. Shut the truck off and remove the pump cap, the oil will be foamy, let it set with the cap off until the foam is gone and the oil is clear again. Then do the same thing over until there is no more foam when you pull the cap. It will take some time.

My manual says to turn lock to lock approximately 20 times WITHOUT engine running, but mine is an 04

can the pump cause play in the steering wheel. I seem to have more play at 70 mph then i do at 55 mph. all my steering linkage is good and i just put on a new steering box the good one from Geno's. I have about an inch play driving down the road.

Hi jdraker62,
I have an 06 QC 4x4 and put the 08 front upgrade on and it now steers harder than before. Do you think a pump upgrade would make it easier to steer ? It's not that hard but not as easy as before the upgrade. Thanks for any opinions and part numbers

Yes, I have the same thing on the front of my truck. I put a Carli leveling Kit on it and upgraded to the 08 or 09 parts. It steers much better than it did before the stock pump took a dive. I will say that the aftermarket pumps (3 of them) have not been a good and have had their pulley's nearly spun off. The last dodge Reman pump was also not good as it too had it pulley nearly spun off. It back off the shaft 1/2". So far I have caught all but one before it has sent the pulley through the system sheering off anything in its way and losing power steering and power brakes. I will say stopping the truck is sporty with now power assist. The upgraded pump from dodge is very good so far. The only thing is you have to get a new bracket and reservoir. The only thing is the cap is problematic and clogs easily. I think I have it fixed now as no belt squeak for 3 days now.
