The well drilling Co here on Li use to use this system to rase the hammer used to drive the well pipe. It would work really well unless you didn't have the truck blocked off the ground properly.

I'd want to find out the load rating on the line before purchasing it, but other then that looks like a cool, working item to have next to the boonie bag without having to carry around a winch all the time.

Yeah, I've seen something like that before. I remember seeing something like that sold thru the old JC Whitney catalogs, long before the internet. Do a quick search, and you can see a few ancient examples. It's a simple idea, but it has a few drawbacks.

One, unless you have a locking differential, you must use two winches. This means setting up for two hub winches and setting two anchor points.

Two, this type of winch cannot be used when pulling at an angle. There is no guide that allows the line to wrap onto the drum, and the edge of the capstan is rather shallow. The anchor points must be directly inline with the drum, or the rope will jump off the capstan or get wedged between the rim and capstan.

Three, It's pretty low to the ground. This means the line is probably going to be submerged in mud or water, where it can't be seen or the line could be forced to cut into the terrain, such as pulling over an edge.

Four, it's only for you. If your buddy's truck is hopelessly stuck, you cannot really use the hub winch on your truck to recover his truck, unless you bolt the system to his truck.

Other than that, it's a simple back up plan if a real winch isn't available or has failed, and unlike a high lift, it doesn't require physical effort or resetting the winch every four feet.

All valid points…still think it is a great idea!!!

And the idea has actually been around for a long time too. But apparently the announcer doesn't think so because towards the end of the video he says. "It's so revolutionary, so simple, you'll wonder why it was never available before"

Sorry, thats not exactly true, it's an idea that been around since at least WW2

I remember watching my grandfather (who coincidentally is a WWII vet) free an old tired 5 ton dump from the quagmire after loading it to the hilt with firewood with the strap from a ratchet strap wrapped around the rear dual tied to another strap that was wrapped around a tree.

I think it ruined both straps but it was a heck of alot better than the alternative.

While we are discussing wheel driven contraptions this one below has always scared the crap out of me, there are about a million things that could go wrong while using it...

Yup, always been afeared of those suckers too!!!

I kinda like the way the guy s "hopes" that he can "attempt" to show us how it works "successfully" ...
I am pretty sure that there is an ambulance waiting just outside the camera frame..LOL.
