2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Blower motor quit

Man, I hate to say it, but you sure have had one problem after the other for the past few months. You're dedicated, I'll give you that.

I have replaced the blower motor in my two trucks five times. Granted, I run it, usually on high, most all the time. I have never bought a new one from a dealer but three of the five have been new ones from O'reilly's and two have been used factory ones. They all last me @ three years. The bearings give up. When it starts going out you can take the plastic cover off and give the motor a bump with a stick, umbrella, scraper, whatever you have handy, and it will go a while longer then quit again. I've tried oiling the bearings to no avail.

If I could just keep the wheels on I'd be happy everybody knows towing with an nv4500 it's only a matter of time before fifth gives out so a set of fifth gears and water pump I don't think I've had to bad of luck for a truck with 250000 miles
 
I guess I should have said it only works on low it still blows just not very hard .

I'd suggest putting a straight 12V to the motor to make sure it's actually working as it should. If it is, replace the blower motor resistor.

Hey, I’ve been there. Seems like when it rains it pours as they say. Just in the past few months you’ve posted up about problems with:

• Blower motor quit
• Alternator won’t charge
• Water pump went out
• Drive shaft (slip joint) clunking
• Gelled fuel
• Wheel fell off
• Transmission problems
• Blend door broke
• Air conditioning not working

As big Papa said check the resistor and the blower motor. I have gone through three or four resistors and only one blower motor in 330K. Though usually on the resistor you have low and high no in between. All of my resistors went out with the oem motor. When it went out I checked on a new oem but the dealer wanted $327. Drove over to Advance auto and walked out the door with one for $60. Funny no more fried resistors since the change several years ago. My Advance replacement is in need of replacement. It howls on startup when it is cold out and then gets quiet again sometimes within seconds sometimes within minutes but keeps on blowing. Fortunately either issue is an easy r and r two screws or three
 
I get mine at U-pull-it yards. $10-$15 will get an OEM blower and the resistor. I know I've had to replace it twice, might be three times.
 
Usually if the resistor goes the fan will still run on high as that position on the switch is direct 12 volts. It could be the switch. Strange that the motor only runs on low. Does it run at all in any other position? bg

According to my '99 shop manual (pg 24-39 and 24-40,) it's underneath the dash next to the blower motor, next to the rubber motor vent hose.

It does sound a little odd that it only runs on low. If it's running silently, I'd agree to start with the resistor pack. On mine, it was pretty apparent that the bearings were shot, squealing like a stuck pig when it ran at all. Aside from the contortions, it's not a bad replacement.

It is located under the glove box area and is mounted in the side of the AC housing, the resistor part of it has to be in the airstream of the AC. Probably held in place by one or two screws and has several wires going to it. bg

The ac quit because I was hauling a load of seed through a field for a neighbor and ran a piece of inch pipe through the grille and ruined the condenser
Alternator quit charging because the water pump leaked so much antifreeze that belt started slipping
The drive shaft clunk i think the slip yoke Is probably bad but I took it to driveshaft shop they replaced the ujoints and the Carrier bearing they said the slip Yoke was fine
The blend door I don't know about you can hear it hitting the stop at each end but I don't have much heat and never have
 
Mine just did the same thing. 9 degrees outside when it happened. Putting 12 volts to it and it only ran slowly. I removed it and found it had a little bit of crud packed around the bottom of the fins of the squirrel cage fan. The fan did not spin smoothly or easily by hand. I used compressed air to blow all the crud off the fins and from between the bottom of the fan and the body of the motor. Afterward, the fan spun like it should. Attached 12 volts again and it spun like new. Reinstalled it into the truck and it worked as it had since new.

Something to look at before buying any parts.
