To get back on point...

My 2500 68RFE pulls like - as was said earlier - an angry freight train, even compared to my 2004 which I had all kinds of money into (and torque coming out of). I had to rebuild the transmission on that one at 30,000 miles - because I was towing at 70 in overdrive with a tuner and a stock trans. That's on me, and I didn't go t the dealer and pretend it was the truck's fault.

The power train on my new truck is stock and staying that way. It pulls my 12,000+ pound 33 foot toy hauler so easily that I literally forget the trailer is one there if I'm daydreaming. The 68RFE is not an Aisin, but it has the same warranty! For 100,000 miles if it has the slightest problem I'll take it in and have the dealer replace it. If it makes it that far doing what I do, I figure it's a pretty reliable trans... I drive it without the trailer on road trips with my family (my 8 year old can walk around in the back of the Megacab) and it rides like an SUV if I turn the air suspension "down". Can't say that about a 3500, which I ALMOST bought - and probably would be equally happy with.

I'm guessing you'll be pretty happy with the 2500 unless you get in a badge-comparing competition. If it's against a Ford guy, you win (truck won't spool up due to failed turbo). If it's against a Chevy guy, you win (great trans but the Isuzu can't touch the Cummins). and if it's against a 3500 Dodge guy well, just buy him a beer and say "nice truck". 9'll get ya 10 he says the same to you...

The weakest link with these trucks is the driver usually. I tow to the rated capacity of my truck and it performs flawlessly.

Maybe we will pass on I-5 again! Snoking
If the truck comes in Friday we will take it over to Ellensberg and back and run the hell out of it for a little breakin for the gears. So if u are heading north next weekend that may just happen!

It is a sad realization that my stock '97 with 215 hp / 440 lb-ft torque is now about equal to only 3 cylinders of the new trucks. I am ready for some of that step-up-and-see-who-pulls action, but you new truck guys will have to pull 3 injectors to make it fair :-laf

For what it's worth, yesterday my wife and I test drove equally equipped 3500 and 2500 mega cabs. The 3500 had the Aisin. To me...again, to me, it seemed like the 68RFE shifted better than the Aisin and pulled harder. Just my opinion based on those 2 trucks. Without a doubt the 2500 ride was plush compared to the 3500.

So buy the grocery getter, and your can bring beer home at the same time! Did the 2500 have the rear air?

Actually, it didn't and no 3/4 ton Cummins diesel 4x4 truck can really be called a grocery getter....

Shifting perception is much different. Remember 2 things,as of now there is no one supplying any type of programming changes for the Aisin, and the factory describes the trans as a slip- shift type trans.

Maybe when the Aisin "learns" your driving style, it will shift better?

The Aisin is NOT an adaptive transmission, like the 68RFE and others that are controller directly by the vehicles PCM. The Aisin has it's own control module between the PCM and the physical transmission. SNOKING

I didn't get one..... (an Aisin). They might double in price due to tarrifs if a certain billionaire becomes preident??????

If you're getting an Aisin, buy a 2016-2017. Don't wait until the redesign?????
