I am installing Mopar's cargo bed lighting. I was wondering if Bob4x4,or Sag2 could look at a wiring schematic at work to see if there was a alternate location to draw power from the cargo lamp switch without triggering a fault in the CDC for the exterior lighting . It is suppose to go to the Body Control module for the lighting the C-1 connector.See install instruction below. Getting to this control module is buried way back near the fire wall upper left hand corner.Just about impossible to get to.View attachment 97323

If possible tapping into the cargo lamp switch is a easy shot. The terminal end wire diagram,is what I need to see which wire powers the lamp when push in...I just have 2 wires coming from the lamps assemblies one for ground and one for power..Also this installation page shows the connector as a C-1 just below that connector in my 2015 it is inscribe as a "A" terminal location..

I have fiqured it out. With the help of my dealership the tech stated just remove the amplifier and you will have all the room in the world. All done. Thanks for listening guys.

Ok stupid question... How do you remove the Amplifier? I had to tapinto a pin location on that same unit when I installed my back up cam system was not fun.

Well removing the black finned amplifier next to the Emergency Brake assembly is the key to getting access to the Body control module. This allows you to get to that area. The amplifier has 3 bolts that mount it to part of the column support.

:rolleyes:So as the world turns,so does this Mopar cargo bed lighting saga, awhile back on TDR, some one posted "hey what are these cut-outs for in the bed of the truck" ? Well it was a easy answer it is for the LED bed lamps. But in 2015 despite FCA prepping the bed for this to be a option in 2015,alias it was not to be.The body harness is it wired too some thought ?. Some on other Dodge Ram forums said there are 2 pigtails just back of the frame right below the bed these might be it.Despite not one soul posted a wiring diagram from DealerConnect which by the way is the most current information to prove this logic out. Here comes myself who thought when purchasing on Amazon to use this for cargo bed lighting which by the way stated that in bold lettering "RAM 1500/2500/3500 Cargo bed lighting" fits 2014-2016 RAM 1500/2500/3500, it would work I thought. After following the instruction I then return to my faithful dealership to have them flash through DealerConnect then into WiTech device plugged into my PCM to see if the code was available (which by the way was) meaning that the sales code LPL would be accepted by this V.I.N. number meaning that the PCM would or could activate the cargo bed lamps along with the Cab mounted light lens as well. So this tech highly trainned in this updated push some buttons and the truck except's the code.Bingo all is well, after returning the truck to the service bay,we try the cargo lamp function, and no joy meaning no bed lamps are lit.Me being the curious George that I am ask why she no go,he states to me that quote "The truck need to go to sleep for awhile before it will see the reconfiquration. We both look like we were in some kinda of time zone were logic did not seem right but yet here we are. Kinda like Star Track with Spock speaking to you..... I say OK,well you learn something new each day. I proceed to pay for the re-confiquration and I see I am being charged 135.00 US Grade A green backs for this dealer option upgrade. Some 2 day go by and still no joy in my heart despite it being Christmas. So far I have spent 109.00 for the Mopar Cargo bed light kit, and 135.00 for a reconfiquration this puts this at 244.00 Uncle Sams printed currency. By the way this option had I ordered this truck was only 100.00 dallors. So after conversations both with the dealership that sold me the part and the dealership that did the supposed flash they both have come up with 2 proven statements: 1)The dealership's Amazon dept is sorry we did not make it clear this Mopar kit is only for a 2016/2017 RAM 1500/2500/3500. 2) That the dealership who did the reconfiquration flash did not work as plan.To not my surprise no one offered to refund me money on false promise's....I was through surprised that the tech throught the LPL code with through, because when the Amazon dealership pulled my V.I.N it saw mulitple times a LPL code tried to go through. But instead it saw a "Trailer Power mirror upgrade" posted instead of the dealer installed option of LED cargo bed lamps. Later on in the day after talking to both dealerships it seems the trailer tow mirror option disappeared and the LED bed lights was indeed on Dealer Connect options for my V.I.N. So the lastest and greatest is that they are going to look at the wiring diagram to see if I can splice in to to power up the lights. So this old man can see into his bed early in the morning while loading up and hitching up. Without having to wear that stupid looking cheap LED headlamp, but as my wife said it is alot cheaper and does require a whole lot of money. And it works to boot...

Keep us updated if they are able to wake those lights up. I'm going to add some bed lighting one day and would like to go the OEM route.

I installed the Bed Cargo lights. Did everything the instructions said to do. What they don't tell you is that to get them to work you have to flash the computer to show it as a dealer installed item. Then they will work. There is an software update for the 2016 trucks get it done..

Thanks Sag for I know now the BCM C-1 pin 5 location does not have the corresponding power on the back side of the BCM module hence any software LPL sales code is not going to power it up.I did read on another Ram owners website were as you can guess has gotten a hold off a 2015 RAM 2500 wire diagram and found a power source for the bed lamps and has the tolerence with in the range of current draw as not to trigger a DTC when illuminated by the cagro lamp switch on the Light control panel.Sag do you need a V.IN. specific to pull my harness up.I have review this diagram and see a possible power source there at the rear cargo lamp assembly "Brown/White stripe wire ".Note my ground still follow's the install paper work located at a body stud mount located aft the driver side battery .One question the light blue box's what are they module or relay's.Also I see a left and a right cargo lamp assembly can I still tap one side of the Brown/White wire.... Thoughts:cool:

If you got the cargo light kit from the dealer there should have been instructions and there is a female plug already in the wiring harness going to the rear lights Tail light rear cargo light third brake light. To get the cargo lights for the bed of the truck to work they have to be programed into the PCU. If you splice into any of the lights it will not work. Also the you will open up a bigger can of worms. The dealer can flash the PCU takes 15 min.

W6pea,my truck is a 2015 MY,this trucks body harness was not coded with a build for Bed Cargo lamps and was not available for 2015. Your truck is a 2016 this MY was coded to build with a option for Bed Cargo lamps. If you order for example the Luxury Grp (LP2) this includes bed lamps, I believe this is the reason you are stating look under your bed you will see a connector for in 2016 a Tradesman or a SLT will have that connector available for power since it is wired from the Power control Module to the BCM. A truck either a dealer ordered,or customer ordered has a V.I.N specfic harness ordered by sales codes like LPL for example. This allows RAM not to waste money on excessive harness builds, like wiring and connectors and relays etc..etc imagine the cost over 450,000 trucks a year. What I am trying to do is wire throught the Headlamp control module or through the CabHigh brake/lamp wiring. The cargo bed lamps have to be activated through that curcuit or they would come on with the door opening or the interior light switch etc...If you notice what Sag2 posted is a V.I.N. ordered RAM with RamBox's notice as well the C-1 pin 5 connection as well in the curcuit,it only drives the cab high mounted light lens, does not show additional wiring terminating at a plug for a plug and play option..Interesting through the tech was surprised that the LPL code was available to upload, but when uploaded in to the truck's PCM after sleeping for several days the lights never woke up to be powered. Then it dawn on me possibly the BCM circuit board at the C-1 location pin 5 is even routed for power, there is a slot through, but then again their are 3 slots open at that C-1 connector...

I did not order my truck with the bed cargo lights, But if your truck has the 3rd Brake light and a bed on it there more than likely is a plug, If there are places to mount the cargo lights in the bed of your truck, they need to be added to the computer for them to work.

I believe Eagle 6.7 is correct that the BCM does not have the internal circuit because it is a 2015 and was never supposed to have bed lamps. That is why I suggested using another circuit.

Thanks for the saga, answered several questions I have contemplated relating to the cargo bed lighting, mounting cut-outs I have in the bed of my 2015 3500 LoneStar SRW, with factory 5th wheel wired tow package
After reading all of the re-wiring, pc flash updating, I thing I'll just use a flashlight and the existing cab high cargo light.
Eagle6.7L, Hope your cargo bed lighting operation works out, I was hoping it would've have been easier than what you've encountered.

PGAdams I have not given up on these lights yet.I have assembled some of the brightest minds in the Ram industry, and I know we will come up with a tap-in point.I have a place to tap-in but before I start it must be approved by the chief surgeons hereon this website.......
