In 2012 we bought a used 4300 international with a DT-466. In 2013 with only a 100K.miles we were told by the International dealer that the turbo was about to go out so we replaced the turbo. A few days ago with only 160K miles the Turbo went out again.

What are we doing wrong? We have replaced two turbos on this truck.
While we have not put a lot of miles on this truck we do use this truck everyday.

What causes a turbo to go bad? We have several Fords w/turbos that have just as much miles that are still on their original turbo? I can't say that Fords are better because we have a 2006 Int 4300 that still has the original turbo.

Thanks

It is a DT-466 after all. What year and what turbo? What is actually failing and have you had it looked by a truck shop not just the dealer?

Agree with the questions from the above 2 posters. If it is not a water cooled turbo, is the truck being run hard and shut right down without a bit of "cool down" idle time? Oil cooled turbos shut down HOT will coke up the turbo shaft from oil burning on the shaft. The DT466 has been around for a while.

Since you bought the truck used no telling why the first one went south, the second one might have been a bad recon. If you have a boost leak that you can't or don't hear, that can allow the turbo to over spool.

Really need the history of why the 2 turbos failed ie: oil supply failure...turbo blade wear etc ect
Did both turbos have the same failure
Are both turbos rebuilt or new
Very hard to find any answers with out a history

The first time we replaced the Turbo it was fixed by the International Dealer. This 2nd time it was fixed by a local shop that has fixed several of our trucks.

Not going to be able to offer advice without failure information. As far as any of us know the neither of those places have a clue how to fix a turbo correctly. Need to know what turbo it is and specs or it is all guesses.
