Starting to get more play than I like in my 01 2500 steering, so started looking for new steering box. Started looking and borgeson looks like what i want but every website says on backorder. Called Borgeson rep claimed they had problems with parts manufacturing so they discontinued sellling. Anyone else heard of this? Looking for info.

Subscribed. A bummer if they stop manufacturing.
My 99 box is sort of on the way out and I too was considering Geno's box as best option and possibly going for it in the Spring. It not only is "new" but reduces lock to lock turns from 4.5 to 3.5 and when going straight there's less assist than existing box as well as "the more you turn the greater the assist".

I had a Borgeson on my 2nd gen. Initially it was great with the tighter ratio but within a year it was as sloppy as the 10 year old OEM unit. You're not missing much if you can't get one.

I installed a Borgeson steering gearbox on my 02 truck in February of 2015 (about 50,000 miles ago). My old box had 4 1/4 turns stop to stop and the new Borgeson had 4 turns stop to stop. I was expecting 3 1/2 turns.

I contacted Borgeson about this and the representative said that there is only one part number from 94-02 Dodge Rams. Upon further investigation (I wouldn't give up) I ended talking to an engineer and she found that there were two different steering gearboxes being packaged and sold under the same part number (BO800120). One box had the 3 1/2 turns, the other had 4 turns but was a variable ratio (a slower ratio when the steering wheel is centered and a faster ratio the further the steering wheel is turned off center in either direction).

I got the variable ratio one (4 turns stop to stop) and as it turns out I like it just fine.

RRasch, I just wanted you to know if you order a Borgeson steering gearbox, you could get either gearbox without any way of knowing which one until you test it.

I purchased a Borgeson complete steering system back in 2014 shaft, box and "high volume" pump and never really thought it was worth the money. Steering is hard at stand still. Read many negative treads about the shaft and box and my pump has leaked from day one despite removing it three times and replacing the seals. For the money I've spent on system it doesn't live up to the hipe.

I bought a Red head and it works as designed. Can't say it it is awesome though. It is a quality reman, product of the USA. If you buy one from the dealer it will be a reman also, source unknown. I sent back two Rockauto remans before I bought it.

Your not missing much with the Borgeson in my honest opinion. Had two of them within a year, first one leaked real bad within the first year past the output shaft, the replacement was sloppy. I also did not trust there set screw steering shaft connection adapter contraption and it was loose once and noticed but the slop in the steering.

I have a lot of slop in my steering. After paying almost a gran $$$$ for the Borgeson set up. Sort of hoping maybe some of the knowledgeable DODGE guys out there might have an alternative plan B. Any suggestions would be helpful. My biggest ***** with this truck is the steering

Redhead Steering buyers beware: I ordered a Redhead Steering Box for $346 (plus $225 core charge) and installed it last week. When I went to torque the mounting bolts, the first one stripped out. Removed unit, cleaned paint from the mounting holes, and found that all three mounting hole internal threads were in terrible shape. Contacted Redhead and explained the problem and they asked for pictures. I sent many photos and even a video of the obviously damaged threads. They wanted me to send another core deposit, pay for the return shipping, and charge me $50 to send another unit. Meanwhile, my truck was disassembled and I needed it for a camping trip. I told them it was ridiculous for me to spend $80 more dollars to roll the dice that they would send me a unit that was any better than the one sent the first time. They took in a damaged core and passed it on to me. I can't say how the internals would have performed because I am not going to do business with a company that will not stand behind their product - or take responsibility for their own mistakes. Redhead Steering Gears does not.

I was thinking about a Red Head now I'm not sure. I read many good thread about both borgeson and red head in earlier threads and in later thread it seems like the quality control went by the way side. What's out there that could hold up to the stress of bigger tires and some off road use? I seen a ram steering system on one of the after market web site. Anyone have one on their truck?

Update on my Redhead Steering Box: I talked to a different representative of Redhead who said to return the box and that they would examine it. I told him that it would seem only to delay the inevitable and foregone conclusion that I had damaged the threads rather than the correct conclusion that they rebuilt a bad core and shipped it out. They seem to think that because they hand-thread shipping bolts into the units that no problem can exist. I told him that I can still hand-thread bolts in all three holes, but none of them are in a condition to hold any torque or clamping force. In the meantime, I paid another core charge for them to ship me another box. So, at this moment, I have tied up $796 and will not have a new box by tomorrow for a planned trip. I will update again when the dust settles.

Good Luck Jason! Hope when the dust settles you have a good box that works well. Keep us posted. If it works out for you maybe Ill consider one. This Borgeson box and shaft on my truck is shot. Way to much slop
.

I've purchased three Redhead boxes and they were good folks to deal with. Yes, they charge you a core to ship a warranty because they rely on core returns for their livelihood. I've had a few leaks that they warrantied without problems. You DO need to install a DSS if not already installed.

Wow three boxes before a good one. What is a DSS?

I just finished doing a full steering upgrade two months ago. I tried to order the Borgeson steering box last September along with the steering shaft. When I ordered it, it went immediately to backorder status. I called a few weeks later and the sales guy said that they were 400 orders backlogged. It was due to the fact that they couldn't get them from the OEM. I waited about 2 months then they just cancelled the order altogether.

I then ordered a Red Head unit. Very nice, super tight. This is used with the Borgeson steering shaft. This really improved my overall steering.

The best thing that completes the installation is the new steering column bushing from: http://rocksolidramtrucksteering.com/.
Super easy to install and that thing made all the difference in the world! No more banging and rattling in the steering wheel and it feels like a brand new truck. After you take the old factory bushing out, you'll see why the new Delrin bushing is so good. Best thing ever for steering improvement.

I could get my zip wheel on the retainer and just cut it out in a minute. 10 minutes to clean up the crud on the shaft and a little 400 grit paper. Put a little grease on the inside of the bushing and lightly tap it into the collar. Hammer the new retainer in to within a 1/16 of an inch and you're good to go.
