2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission wiring an aftermarket extenal fuel pump

I have an 01 ram 3500 diesel, I have installed ISSPRO fuel pressure, exaust temp, turbo boost and transmission temp guages, now im installing a AIRTEX E7153 lift pump on the frame, My question is, where do I get the power for the pump? I thought the truck had the intake fuel pump mod, but it doesnt. ive dropped the fuel tank, ordered a new sending unit because the gauge would never go below a 1/4 tank. im installing a sump on the bottom of the tank. I removed the factory lift pump from the engine, can I connect a relay to the factory lift pump harness plug, then get a power source for the pump itself from the battery? will this cause any running issues?

I used the wire that powered my engine mounted pump that way you get the starting pressured fuel with key turned on from ecm and then after start it powers your new pump
I also installed a sump draw for new pump

Use the oem pump power to turn on a relay-save the ecm from being damaged.

There is an extended wiring harness that plugs into factory and extends it all the way to the tank, I did an intank mod and this harness came with it on my 01

There are two important benefits to using a relay. One is as Bob4x4 mentions and the other is that with the proper sized wiring through a relay, voltage will be higher at the pump - thus improving the pump's performance. Be sure to fuse the new circuit provided by the relay.

When you mention you are installing a sump on the bottom of the tank I think of a race car tank with the pocket/sump attached to the bottom. Take a look at the vulcan draw straws in Geno's Garage.
