GS, that is a great oil report! I am wondering how the TBN number relates to towing most of the time to towing 1/3 of the time with my truck.

OK, you only run 4-5K per change. What are you spending per change? Multiply that by 3, how does that compare to my 15K cost of $120 ? Not to mention I only need to remove my air intake ONCE. :D

Ok, how often do you change your oil. If you follow the manual every six months or 15K , where does multiply by 3 come into play.

I could probably go 15K on the conventional oil, then I would probably do an oil analysis , to make sure, although that would be a stretch at 18 months on the same oil. My point is if you followed the six months, take away the 15K if it doesn't apply, or if it does then you are changing before the six months .Now multiply your $120 by three, and see how we compare.

Sure you can make the numbers work if you don't follow the six months or 15K . I chose to follow the manual.

Well, in all actuality, my towing is around 50%, unless I am using my own trailer and not out delivering GatorMade trailers.
In any event....I do not think the oil cares that much. I am guessing there is only marginally additional wear & stress on the engine towing vs. bobtailing.

I have one other Blackstone sample from my last oil change (when I made my CA run) that has 16,265 miles on it, but only 271 drive hours. I am debating mailing it in. I am almost sure I will not see any results much different than what you see above.

I am doing analysis every time for many reasons. One is I run at or a bit over 6 mo on my oil.

IMHO even with Blackstone included I am inexpensive and saving time doing what I am.

I replace my air and both fuel filters also at 15k then every other I do the trans.

I change my oil every six months. $ 50 per oil change, $100 per year. If you think there is some benefit to spending $120 per oil change every six months or SO, plus oil analysis , by all means continue to do so.

On a per mile basis and time saved I am ahead on this one so just admit it! :D

I also know exactly how my engine is doing.

Why do you feel the intake ducting is difficult? (I am planning on doing it soon on my 17 and always did it on my 1st gens)

HA, I am the one that posted how damn easy it is to change the oil filter from the top by removing a section of the intake.

I was being sarcastic.

Didn't say it was difficult ,done it a couple times , its unnecessary . I go thru the fender, its what I prefer. This has been discussed to death, you can do it it any old way you want. In the realm of things, this is not very important :)

Besides Cummins12V98 started it ,it's his fault :D

It is important to me. At least for the first oil change I am taking the intake apart. Out in the country it is good to check for mice infiltration into the air filter anyways. I have found that they eat through the pleats on filters without the steel cage.

Gosh, I don't know, someone say its inferior  I guess it pays to run the expensive stuff, been a miracle I have gotten by with plain old Rotella for all these years.:-laf
So it is your belief is amsoil is not worth the money because you have done fine on Rotella,Have you ever used amsoil ?

No, its not worth it to me. If it is to you, thats great.

If I haven't had any oil related problems with my diesel trucks in the past 20 years using Rotella, I am going to go out on a limb here, lets define it as yes it been fine using Rotella, that work for you :)

To answer your question, no I haven't ,nor will I ever use Amsoil

So to end this back and forth:

To all members, let it be known.....

Synthetic oil is not worth it to Cummins2014!!

Ok, now we can move on.

Nice to have that out of the way!

Next question does he use synthetic gear lube, if so why???

Now you guys are just being mean :)

Thats a good question, what do you recommend , and I will use just the opposite :D

Seriously, I do believe its supposed to be synthetic, but then I won't be dumping expensive synthetic oil out every six months, like some

If you want to use something that does not start breaking down and binding at 15k and can run it twice that long with no issues try the AMZ/OIL SevereGear 75-90 or if towing a lot or heavy the SG 75-110.
