I don't know, they've been using 10w30 cj4 in the X12 and 15 (former isx) engines for some time and approved the use of FA4 in those engines from day one of (fa4) inception.

X series aren't really legacy engines like the B series. B series being something designed in the late 70's or early 80's.

Your new truck's first oil change would be a great opportunity to start changing the oil the easy way......instead of the hard way you subjected the Radio Flyer to.......:p:D

Not sure , but taking a guess he takes all those parts off the engine ,and goes thru the top :D, if so I should finish the homemade filter cap I started before receiving a Genos cap as a present, and ship it to him so he can do it the EASY way.

Whenever you get over 362K going through the wheel well.......get back to me. :D

synthetic oil relevant to diesel reply or not, here goes.

99 Camry I picked up recently from a acquaintance,234k miles on it now. Since I am resealing the rocker lever cover I thought I'd take a pic. No sludge, some varnish. I know guy bought the car new and claims he used synthetic oil the whole time, don't know how often he changed it over all those years, ( knowing him I would guess somewhat irregularly LOL) but I do know he let his kids beat the snot out of it the last couple years.

Friends,

This oil "discussion" has sure been around a long time, but good to read new info. Many have good proof for both sides of the dino vs. synthetic discussion. I have success on both sides too. I've had '93, 2000 that I used nothing but Rotella with great results and over 200K miles heavy towing. But, then I read an article about how Chevy Corvette, I forget what year, had cooling problems that was solved by the use of Mobil 1, due to heat reduction through superior lubrication. I've used Mobil 1 in my 2002, 2003, and 2009 trucks all over 200K miles and no problems changing at 10K miles. Didn't use or leak oil. On my 2009 4500, I had GCW of 33,400 lbs towing my Mobile Suites (20,200 lbs) all over the country with 70K miles on it. Just traded it for my new 2017 5500 and will follow the same 10K change interval even though its 13.5K for C&C trucks. I'll be installing a Fumoto drain valve on it when I change the oil the first time after our 5 week trip out West and Northwest. I learned about the rebate off of $10 off a gallon though, and will certainly use that savings.

I still read and learn from these threads, analyze the info, and reassess what I'm doing. I reckon I'm going to keep doing what has worked for me.

Thanks for the conversation.

Ron

What's going on with the 7th intake lobe? They all have a wierd varnish on them.

probably just one of the parts that I wiped off in the process of cleaning up the sealing surface for the rocker cover.. they were all in good shape. car is just a 500 dollar beater , all I expect out of it is to get me to retirement next April.
