Would be nice if people select "full size image" so we don't have to click to view a pic.

you sure you don't mean " so I don't have to go to all that extra work of clicking on an image?"

you are the first person to point out how difficult it is to click on a photo icon. :)

When posting a pic you have two choices. As in you have to click on ONE!!! So a simple click can others from having to do so just to view what you posted. It's called common courtesy!

12v98. you are the only one who has whined about it so far and I'm not the only one posting the clickbait. . Maybe I can post a poll and see what member preferences are. LOL

2 can play this game. Incredible, all you do is complain! are you ignored as an adult?

FWIW no one else has said a thing about the pictures and I am not the only person posting them.

Here are some shots of the top side on a Series 60 Detroit that we suspect was run with extended drain intervals and synthetic oil.

We had a large fleet a few years back that tried the same thing and every one of the engines we opened up had the same sludge and wear. They went back to traditional oil and drain intervals.

......I'll continue using normal drain cycles and dino oil....

I do not know the hours on this engine but it the 26th one we have overhauled from the same fleet, a couple of them required some crank polishing, most of them needed rocker shafts which is a little unusual.....all were very nasty inside.

M Wilson, sludge can be impressive . Back in 2000 when DD started putting EGR on b us engines ( series 50's) the drain interval went down to 3000 miles from 6000. But our fleet management didn't want to do that ( changing the oil that often is expensive LOL) , so someone up thought got sold on the idea of adding a bypass filter. I am not quite sure if it was a public private inside job ( government fleet but you never know who is in cahoots and sells em great ideas)who thought that bypass filter idea up, but they decided to have those bypass setups installed on all the vehicles, tucked away outside the engine compartment behind the left rear wheels. But Fleet Management never added the bypass filter to the PM sheet nor ever told anybody that mattered about the filter... so it never got changed and we stayed on that 6k oil change interval, and we had pretty much the same mess you just pictured in your photo. multiply it by about 450 vehicles.

OTOH we have went back to the 3k interval on the older EGR equipped engines still using the same low bid bulk oil we always used and the sludge problem went away.

these are the used internals from a 2005 Cummins ISM ( EGR equipped) that spent its whole life on the more practical 3000 mile OCI on low cost low bid bulk oil.
PS let me see if I can post this full size so some people don't have to click on it

I have argued about this synthetic thing, and there were a couple that pretty much insist this its a better oil. Had my doubts before, but now for the average guy, I am back to thinking its still a waste of money.

Its sounding like the ONLY advantage is cold weather starts, which is not an issue for me.. I bought in ,and ordered full synthetic for this next oil change, well its going to be one ,and done on synthetic. Not really sure in the first place deciding on synthetic, but I am done.

20 years experience with basically T4 Rotella , well I am back to it next time. Kthaxton, if you read this, cummins2014 is back :p

Synthetics don’t let you run any longer on oil than Dino oil does. Simple fact are facts.

Not sure what the simple facts are, but following the 6 months or 15K, which I argued before, does it really make sense for a guy that puts 3-5 thousand miles every six months to dump out perfectly good expensive synthetic oil. It sure doesn't make sense to me, I know it gives some a warm fuzzy feeling, and its their choice. Its great we have a choice.

Semi Synthetic is being pushed for the next generation DTNA engines, I think it is this simple....boosts the fuel mileage ratings.....

Yep, FA4 and the inherently lower HTHS of XXw30 oils will almost exclusively be synthetic/synthetic blend. Only a matter of time before Cummins goes this route in the 6.7 IMO.

Boosts the fuel mileage ratings, I am pretty anxious to see those results using this synthetic on my next oil change. I will be sure to post the results

Bear in mind this may be a slight increase under controlled testing, but it gives bragging rights on a 500 truck deal to a fleet plus makes the EPA a tad happier...

I think that would be a big deal, not sure its has much meaning for the average on this forum ,and 10K a year.
