I recently bought my wife a 2018 Ford Expedition with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine. I'm looking for opinions on what oil filter to use. I own a heavy diesel repair shop and primarily use Fleetgaurd filters at work.
I used a Fleetgaurd LF17531 for the first oil change along with Castrol Edge full synthetic 5W30. I would also consider the Motorcraft FL500S. The Fleetgaurd is cheaper, but not enough to be a deciding factor. I plan to change the oil every 5,000 miles even though the owner's manual and the oil life system are telling me it can go 10,000 between changes...

I'm not looking to start any brand wars in this thread. I'm sure either oil filter would be fine and I guess I could cut a couple open for comparison...or I could just get some valued opinions from TDR members.

Thanks for the replies. I want this vehicle to last 200k and between intake valve carbon and timing chain / cam phaser issues, I thought oil maintenance would be cheap insurance. I installed a Fumoto oil drain valve at the first service so oil changes will be quick and easy.
I’m not sure whether there will really be much benefit to the synthetic oil vs blend over shortened intervals, but at 5.5 qts capacity, it’s not much extra cost to use full syn.

Supposedly, Ford addressed both the injection system and the cam phaser design in this 2nd generation 3.5l Ecoboost. Only time will tell I guess, but I wouldn't be overly concerned with either issue .

I read about the changes to the injection system, but am unaware of updates to the cam phasers. Normally, I never buy extended warranties but this time I extended the bumper to bumper coverage to 6 years 125k miles...I hope it’s the biggest waste of money ever!

Since it's under warranty I would think the Motorcraft filter would be a no brainer. I have no idea whether it's the best filter for the application but the dealer can't blame any aftermarket filter if something comes up. Keep your receipts...

If this were really an issue, Jiffy lube's/Express Lube's would not exist with their one brand fits all.

Coming up on oil change #2. I get to try out the Fumoto drain valve. I think I’m going to use the Fleetgaurd filter and Castrol Edge again. I’ll check the manual, but probably nothing else due at 10k miles other than tire rotation.
