This proves Robert's article is correct. I knew he was too meticulous to be in error.

BTW, anyone can check their info at Cummins QuickServe Mobile app. pretty cool.

Thanks, Ron

WayneM, I'd like the whole plate too. Very hard to get to and not enough clearance for a shot. I'm laying on top of engine

yes sir. here's the label from Cummins App. hi

One thing, this isn't the label on the truck. Haven't researched the Cummins config code, but could be interesting. My actual engine label had valve lash, fuel rate, and other info too. Definitely listed for vocational or commercial use only. Also note the warning about safety and warranty violation.

Not that I care about who wins races between the big three but I suspect GM with their 10 speed will more than make up for its lower torque rating.
I'd have rather seen Ram leave the engine ratings alone and invest in more gearing.

I saw somewhere online that the Duramax does fine except when loaded to it's max tow weight pulling up long hilla. Reports of cracked pistons/rods when fullt fueled and pulling hard. If these reports are true, maybe the 10 speed transmission is supposed to help with that?

Order banks supposedly opened for ordering, but without pricing, on Wednesday Jan 23.
I just looked and the code guides are still not there. That does not mean the dealer can't input orders though. It does seem unusual that the order system is open but code guides are not available.

Well, that sounds like GM pushed their V8 beyond it's design limits.
An other transmission won't help curing this.

I don't know their alphabet soup engine designations, but I did watch a video that said the newest version did get beefed up components. I have a very low opinion of anything GM, so that doesn't mean much to me.

FCA likely expects dealers to order for their own stock first - that's usually a handful of designated configurations with the spectrum of colors for customers to see and compare. A few Big Horns, some Laramies, a couple of Longhorns, a Limited for the showroom. Once all the codes and prices are made final, then they'll take customer orders.

I see some discussions about cams on here as well as Duramax.

My girlfriend asked today if her 2007 Mazda 3 might last another 4 years. I do most of the maintenance on her car, so she expects me to predict the future.

So i immediatley began to look through records to see if her timing belt had ever been replaced. Nope!

Then i discovered the reason i didn't replace that was because it has a timing chain.... Not a timing belt.

Then i began wondering what my 6.7 has. It looks like the timing on the 6.7 is all gear driven. I think the ecodiesel has 2 sprocket/chain driven overhead cams and i thought i heard about some timing failures on ecodiesels. That would never be an issue with a 6.7 cummins.... Especially since there is no more killer dowel pin.

And also wondered if Duramax and Power Stroke also have gear driven timing?

The new Duramax has a much larger oil heat exchanger and flow to it, larger piston cooler jets and the water pump is the same but there is a second belt for driving only the larger fan, and the ribbed side of the belt turns the pulley now instead of the backside of it. I remember testing a D-Max towing the Grapevine years ago and anxiously asking the engineer if he had the data he needed cause at <30 psi oil pressure (I think they had real gauges then) WOT I was getting nervous.

Valve timing method is one item that separates the more serious longer running diesels from the lightweight diesels- including the Cummins 5.0.

Wayne, i don't know much about the newer Cummins 5.0. All i know is that i don't want it because it doesn't have an exhaust brake. Also, a V6 or V8 diesel just defies any logic that i would expect engineers to have about a diesel

What do you know about the 5.0?
