First Fuel Filter Change Due - How Do You Prime Push Button Start Truck

Step stool next to Drivers side tire works well also for filter change.

Step stool does work OK on the pickups, not so much on the C&Cs. I used step stool on my previous Ram pickups, but was unstable on my 4500 and 5500. The Cab and Chassis have fender flares stick out about 4 inches from the fenders and the front wheels/wheel caps sticking out another 4 inches, making reaching pretty precarious. I haven't measured, but I believe the 4x4 C&Cs maybe a bit taller as well. Aside from damaging the air cleaner housing, I've had the step ladder scoot out from under me numerous times until finding the topside creeper. I have a prosthetic ankle I'm not even supposed to be climbing ladders with, so gotta be extra careful.

But, I agree with you to use whatever is safe and works for each of us.

I was reviewing FSM and OM for maintenance procedures and found I replaced my fuel filters WAY early at 15K miles when the manuals call for 30K miles. I guess better early than late.

Just thought I'd throw this out there that sometimes it's hard to break old habits.

Any chance you could put a snap shot up of that interval?

I just looked on DealerConnect and it shows 15k for both fuel filters.

Ugh, I feel good and bad. The diesel supplement includes the Eco Diesel AND the Cummins. Eco Diesel is 30K for fuel filter AND Cummins is 15K miles. Glad I followed the correct one.

I guess I need to get used to having two diesel engines listed.

Yeah, I think I'm going in my soft copy of the OM Diesel Supplement and REMOVE all the Eco Info from it.

One thing good about Cummins thru the versions, air AND fuel filters have been 15K miles. I have a little over 17K miles on my 2017 5500 and was looking at what's coming up for maintenance.

One thing I have to confess I haven't done yet with this truck that I've done with every other new vehicle... check all the fluids in everything shortly after purchase. Gonna do that this week.

Anyway, one of many reasons I like being a member on the TDR is it's great to get help from. Just like this example where y'all helped keep me on the RIGHT maintenance schedule.

If it’s not needed.....the air filter can be used up to 30,000 miles or 24 months. I have ran mine 30,000 mile intervals without any problems, and with a 10.3 avg mpg, I have consumed a lot of air.

Greg, I actually went out and checked my truck log and you're right. Becsuse I didn't remember changing out my air filter at 15K miles and had followed the inspection critera.

IMHO, this truck is the best most capable one I've owned to date. SO GLAD I didn't buy the Freightliner Sportchassis.

I'll be SO glad when I get full mobility back from this surgery... brain function has actually suffered the most after 16 weeks. Changed the oil on my Jeep last week, so doing some easy stuff.

I tell folks I'm storm chaser, but it's actually the spare. Getting rid of my 09 4500 11ft bed for my 2017 5500 9 ft bed meant I lost ability to cut the bed and carry the spare there. I actually DID cut the bed in the front to carry it, but didn't use it because of clearance issues with the toolbox/fuel tank combo. In fact I had to cut the tool box off the tank and mount it behind the tank also due to clearance issues. I lost about 7 Inches vertical clearance with this bed due to the design with the trough.

It's a beautiful bed that was already on the truck, but would be better functionally with the lower end flat deck.

Making slow progress with about 130lbs on my ankle. It was really sore yesterday when I inadvertently put full weight (245) on it getting in my Jeep. No harm done, just no shortcuts and progressive baby steps healing.

Do I interpret last comment as you're retired now?

Yup, 1st of this month so I'm on my 11th Saturday, Sundays are still Sundays. Still figuring stuff out. It's hot and humid today so it's clean up more garage stuff in my junk/shop/tinkering place. Camping stuff and things for my Coleman lantern collection are in the spotlight right now.
