Cool thanks. I just started using the amsoil heavy duty series oil and EA80A filter for extended intervals up to 25k miles so I can change my oil once every 8 months or so.

I change my Amsoil every 12 months, regardless of miles, but I only put about 10-12K a year on anyhow.

Which Amsoil? AME?

According the the diesel supplement it's NLT 7,500 miles.

It doesn't have a sensor, but rather uses an algorithm for fuel in the oil but won't exceed 7,500.

Doesn't it vary depending upon the year. My 2017 5500 the magic not to exceed number is 13,500 and P/Us 15,000 miles for the reminder.

You may have taken that into count in your answer, because Smart Phone doesn't show signatures.

Cheers, Ron

Yes it depends on what generation of 6.7. The '13+ motors have a longer OCI.

If I turn my phone horizontal it shows signatures.

If my 2017 Ram 5500 tracks according to the oil reminder, looks like its targeting 15,000 miles... I changed oil first time at 10K miles and reset the minder. Cool stuff!

Uconnect may not be perfect, but it is cool. The GPS locator showed when a the dealer, when it was inside the shop and when parked outside.

My oil reminders have all been 15k. I analize every change and they have all came back good using the AMZ/OIL 15-40 Signature series. I don't care about the 6 mo rule since I do the tests.

Ron,

Me too. I've never followed time for oil changes and never had a problem. In fact, I ran my 02 3500 that had an Amsoil bypass oil filter system following 5K mile filter changes that went 35K miles, before I decided to change the oil. BTW, the last one was as good as all the other oil analysis's.

Cheers,

Ron

It’s evident you’ve drank the Amsoil Koolaid :) My question is did you ever give another brand of oil a chance ? My thinking is any good synthetic oil is going to perform the same. IMO , let’s say T6 Rotella would of done equally as well .

I’ve also went to once a year .I now don’t care about the 6 month rule, not enough miles to concern me . I also don’t do any oil analysis , nor do I plan too .I will also stick to Rotella and fleetguard filters, not a reason in the world not too .

I am using the signature series max- duty Syn 5w-40, Product code DE0QT-EA. I am also using oil filter EA080-EA. I drive over 35k miles a year as this is my daily driver. Amsoil says you can do up to 25k miles but to me that seems a little far. I haven't ever done the oil test on any vehicle i've ever had and my last truck went 685,000 miles before I traded it in for this truck and I changed the oil in that 1 ever 15k miles using Rotella T5 and the walmart oil filters for the 2000 7.3l PS.

I decided to swap this truck from the T5 and Cummins filter from walmart to the Amsoil as I am paying to be a preferred customer it only cost me 127$

T6 15w-40 is advertised as a synthetic blend, so IMO that doesn't qualify as a synthetic oil. I also can't find published specs on HTHS or Noack Volatility, which makes me suspect.

The Amsoil DME I run is also quite a bit thicker at 100°C than T6 15w-40 (15.6 vs 14.7), which I consider a good thing for heavy use.

When Amsoil DME came out I switched to it from AME that had a 100°C viscosity of 15.0. That .6 increase gained a little pressure and lost a little temperature when towing hard, those are both good things. That was with aftermarket pressure and temperature gauges on my 05.

Modern engines run the oil hot, don't trust the BS oil temp gauge on the dash, and you want thick oil to be able to handle that.

Sure T6 may provide great results, but I don't have to try it to know I don't want to run it...just like I don't have to buy a DMAX or Powerjoke to know I don't want to try one.

One of the reasons I like to run a full synthetic 15w-40 is they generally have a lower Noack %loss, around 1/2, of a 5w-40 full synthetic... which goes back to how hot oil can run on modern engines.

All in all we're pretty lucky with these motors. Very few oil related issues, and pretty good OEM OCI's... go look at a 6.7 Powerstroke's OCI if you want to see how bad it can be.

Take a look at the DBL7349 from Donaldson. It has the same media as the EaO-80, but it's a bit cheaper. I get dealer pricing on Amsoil stuff and use the Donladson.

Thanks AH64ID,

Thats a lot of good information. I chose to do the 5w-40 cause thats what i have always run. I will check out the the Donaldson Filter when it comes time to change the oil again. Ive only gone 6k miles maybe a little more and I changed it out back in end of May so I figure I got a few more months to go.

Whats the product code on the DME oil that you run?

Also, If I could I would swap back to a 7.3l IDI power stroke in a heart beat!!! That motor was a beast and I never had any troubles with that truck!!!! It wasn't fast by any freaking means but damn could it move some ****.

Ah, got it. Thanks!!! Cant think straight these days with working 15hr days and studying to get my A&P licenses as well as my electrical and engineering certs. lol too much to handle these days.
