I bought this truck new in 1994. It has 359,800 miles on it. In May of 2013. I had a “500 hp build” done by L&N Performance of Bowing Rock, NC. and the automatic transmission beefed up by Power by Poole of Salisbury, NC. I think the transmission was built to handle close to 1,000 h.p. The 500 hp build involved the upper end. Total cost of rebuild was about $10,000. Mileage at rebuild was 322,092. I had it painted and it looks pretty much like the photos taken last spring except the rear bumper has a couple of dings.

A couple of months ago I turned the ignition on, but the truck would not start. After checking a few things the switch itself was found to be defective. I had a new one put in, but it still would occasionally not start and taking the key out was difficult. I took it to a different mechanic and he could not find the problem, said it worked ok for him!

I am too old to mess with this baby anymore. I have the extensive documentation on the build. Please contact me if interested.

Clean looking truck. Sounds like It's been well cared for.

I had to do an ignition tumbler with all the little shims and springs a few years back on a 03 ford focus, it was rough turning and key in/out for a long time then finally quit on my niece's car, it was stuck in boy friends driveway and they could not get it im Neutral to push back and they had no set up to release the key to get into neutral that had a spot where the key goes, it was stuck, I figured it was cheaper to try to fix it there then tow and pay a shop. Had to had the tumbler from Ford.

Was a pretty easy fix as long as you could get the key out, the key was stuck in but would not release the lock or turn on the car. I got the key out had to use a hammer and tap the end of thr key pretty hard to kinda release the springs and sort then had to get the thing back in there was a sequence too it.

But all in it was super easy to do it, but of course it was raining and I had to do it all in the car would be easier if I could use a bench to reset the key pattern.

So it's possible your truck was having a good day at the shop you brought it too, but being a 94 I'm surprised (but not surprised) they did not just quote you a IGN SW and Tumbler arrangement just to be safe. Would have gave the customer the choice. Might want to find a different shop who wants a quick job.

Sounds like some really nice places have worked on this truck. Also being a southern truck "should" be pretty low rust content underneath.

Good luck with the sale. I don't think a IGN SW will scare anyone off from here.

Thanks for the info. I am too old now (76) to give her any more attention. Time to move on. She should make the million mile mark, for sure if someone does a lower end build.

Did they give you a dyno print out? The mods you have listed would not make 500 hp.As long as the shift linkage is ok and the trans is going into park reliably, you’re probably just needing a new key cylinder .

I only listed a few of the two page list of modifications. Figured I would wait to see if there is interest before going further. It was not dyne tested. L&N called it a 500 hp build. It will blow away other pickups with a v-8. Fun watching the surprised look on their eyes in my rear-view mirror!

I did get a new key cylinder, problem persists and neither the installer or another mechanic could fix!
