Tappet cracks

Hi everyone, had a weird experience this morning, started truck, and all of sudden warning starts dinging check gauges, looked and saw my oil pressure was reading 0, turned truck off and restarted it, goes up to normal then down to 0, took filler cap off where bypass goes to and restarted truck, have plenty of oil coming thru bypass and truck has normal pressure, parked till this afternoon and checked oil, oil is on full, started it and drove it around , seems to be working fine now, wondering if anyone else has had this problem, if so did it repeat itself, or is it just a glitch in gauge or sender, TIA , waiting to heat from anyone, Monte

ECM has a delay built into the fake gauge for the startup pressure delay, which is why it goes to normal then 0.

As mentioned the switch has likely failed. I would check the connection on the switch and if it’s good replace the switch.

Switch went back to working normal, I'll check it again several times to make sure, Thanks for your answers

My truck did the same thing last winter when the temperature got to around 20 deg. Bought a new pressure switch but didn't install it. It hasn't done it this winter so far.

My truck did the same thing when I first took ownership of it (bought it used). I hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to confirm that it was the pressure switch. Sure enough it was. Bought a new switch from Cummins for less than 30$. No problems ever since.
