Simply can't see how a person can add "ONE" quart to the filter, add the special cap, drop in the hole, reach in unscrew special cap and then reach in and lift the filter without tipping and get under it enough to screw it on without spilling a drop.

I guess some people have a lot more manual dexterity than others.
Like dieselhadow, I am also a full time mechanic (though retired now) and have lots of practice getting my hands into and around odd places. Being ambidextrous also helps.

Simply don't buy it.

Could it be that a 2WD like mine is easier than a 4WD that most of you drive?
If we lived near each other and you could stop by sometime when you're due for an LOF, I'd gladly show you how easy it is.

I’ve never needed but one hand....

Yup, exactly my point. Only one hand needed through the side as well. ;)

Buy it or not, lots of members to include myself have told you they do it that way. You can even watch YouTube videos of people doing it AND filming with the other hand.:D

Have YOU done exactly as I described?

I have watched. The person mysteriously skipped the part after the cap was removed. They simply skipped to the filter being installed.

No. Why should I? You haven’t brought forth anything that’s shows easier, less work, or less potential hazards to my engine. That’s just my opinion. Don’t get upset if I don’t agree with your opinion.

Someone give me a video link that shows EXACTLY what I mentioned above. Step by step NOT skipping the critical step.

Sure, I can do some leg work for you. This information isn’t secret. Again, plenty of people have said they can do it. I’m not sure why you’re so vehemently believing it can’t be done?

Is that video by one of us?
Extra points for doing a hot drain and having a clean break on the filter.
I’d have to do it both ways myself, but I think I’d be a top side guy.

He is a member, but doesn't come around much anymore. Too Tall is his handle, IIRC.

He is the first to show raising it up without cutting the video. Thanks for posting it!

Now let’s all be honest. Hot engine draining for 15 minutes and NO oil spilling over the edge when removing the filter??? notice he cut the video ? I’m betting he had to clean the filter off.

He mentions the oil level is a couple inches down when mentioning how full he filled comparing to the level when he removed the filter.

never said mine is the best or only way. But I can say my method costs ZERO $$$ and is VERY easy to do.

as mentioned by doing my way I avoided a guaranteed breakdown.

How many have removed their tube to check for wear?

My filter came down without a drop spilled either. When the filter is removed a few minutes after draining the oil, this filter is siphoned down a bit, again, this has been mentioned several times.

I like his videos, but he tends to ramble and go slow. Sometimes painfully slow. I for one am glad he edits them down a bit. :D

Sometimes trying to chat with you is like wrestling with a pig in mud. You’re not going to win and eventually you figure out the pig is enjoying it.

It’s completely fine to do it which ever way you like. It’s your truck. Have at it sir. ;)

In another thread there was this debate on how/ when to drop oil and filter. When I do it his way, I never spill a drop. Filter has a clean break.
Proof.

This is not doctored or wiped. It’s exactly how it came down. No BS, as Cummins says- EVERY TIME.

Mine looks that way too, as long as I give it at least an hour. I prefer to give it longer thou. Cold filters are easier to handle.

The once or twice I’ve done it within 30 minutes it’s a hot mess, pun intended. I don’t feel the need to find the breaking point, I’ll wait instead. I’ve never needed my oil changed so fast I don’t have the time.

Here is my last change. There was a couple hours of time between shutting it off and pulling the filter.

Wayne, Since pictures can be difficult to 'sifer, how much oil would you surmise came out of that filter?

I go thru the wheel well on my ‘14. I put a ziploc bag on the old filter and pull it out. I fill the new filter ¾ full and run it thru and screw it on with one hand. I do not use the cap thing. No oil is spilled and I don’t waste my time removing/installing the intake tube.

I think the big part here is doing a hot drain of the sump, and I believe a back flow down through the oil system, into the pickup tube siphons the filter to a point. It’s pretty consistent.

Do you fill from the center hole or from the outside holes?

This happens every time you shut down, not just during a sump drain.
