Air filter part # and change interval

Knocking and white smoke

Yeah, mine's pushing through triple filtration. I will have a stocker or the Fleece installed if this one dies.
Thanks.
Didn't Pablo and you install a rear disc conversion at a Rambling Rams get together?
Yes we did. If I remember correctly, it was at a shop in Santee. I think the shop was owned by TDR member Quad4x4? That was one of the best upgrades I did to my ‘97. I know the rear disk conversion gets mixed opinions, but it did wonders for my truck.

I re-read what you wrote and I now see that you are not telling me to get a TTV Stepper, but, that the TTV Steppers work good. I can see that it’s going to take me some time to learn all of these acronyms. ;-).

About the transmissions, I have read and been told that they are good transmissions and it is usually the stock torque converter that goes bad and then fills the good transmission with junk.
Is there any truth in this?

thanks again
Ken

Ken, I discuss this with my son last night about your TC and transmission! He stated that they are both good for stock horsepower and you should not have any issues if you run stock horsepower.

Thank you Jim.
Just so I know everything is ready for traveling, I’ll change fluid and adjust bands and call it good.
Have a great day
Ken

Very rarely on a good maintained transmission that isn't abused.
Like Jim said, you are good to go.

Re torque converters, I’ll add a data point for my experience with Goerend: all good. I’m sure there are other good products out there, but I haven’t run them.
My 2006 was new to me in Jan 2017. I did an oil analysis on the transmission fluid as part of my pre purchase checks, when it came back with high iron, I was concerned, but not enough to walk away. In March 2017, the TC sprag failed (very common, but not catastrophic) and I ended up going with a Goerend triple disk TC, with a stall speed most like stock for a variety of reasons. I ended up having my transmission rebuilt with a full rebuild kit, adding billet input shaft, flex-plate and a custom valve body. I kept all the old parts, and probably had easily 50% of the friction life remaining, with no trouble areas found, but it is good to know the transmission is a known quantity. Driveability with this triple disk TC and custom VB is excellent; shifts are firm, but reasonable. I accelerate like a grandma, but run fairly fast on the interstate, tow occasionally, and most of my trips are hour commutes to/from the airport. When I need to tow, haul hay, or travel, this combination works for me.

Thank you for this information.

At such a new transmission i maybe would consider a nice upgrade with the BD Valvebody.

I'm going to install this in summer, i love to be in control of everything the transmission does.

Looks interesting.
I haven’t done any towing with the truck yet, so I want to see how it does stock and then decide what, if anything, I will do to the transmission, but I will keep this in the back of my mind and see if there are times when this would work for me.
Thanks.
Ken

+2 for the Goerend TC. Also have a Goerend valve body. I'm running all stock on an '07.

Really impressed with the shift quality and power delivery.

This is my first dodge with an Auto and like you I was nervous based on all the information floating around. So far I love the truck.

I also love this truck and of what I have done to it so far has been under the reliability category, ie, fluids, filters and under the safety category I installed some power folding, gen 4 type tow mirrors.

If the stock 48re torque converter is not a reliability problem, then I will most likely drop the pan, change the fluid and filter and see how the truck does with towing my travel trailer.

The only thing About the truck I really don’t care for are the seats. I feel the the newer generation seats are much more comfortable. I have been looking for some used gen 4 power, heated cloth seats, but really don’t want to be spending over $1,200 for front and rear in nice shape that come close to matching my gray interior.

You could order new foam rubber seat cushions from Geno's garage along with heated seating kit. You can then have the seats either recovered or install them yourself. Geno's garage has seat tools to help in replacing the seat cover when you remove them to install the new cushions.
See their catalog pages 50 and 51.

I had my front seats recovered in factory leather seat covers with new seat cushions plus I added a power Lumber padding for the passenger seat. The cost for this was $850.00

Other than few coffee stains, my seats are in really nice shape with under 30k miles, but with a bad back, things like adjustable lumbar and the other adjustments along with heat are really nice.
The newer model 4th gen seats are pretty comfortable for me.

My current 3rd gen seats are a little less comfortable than the captain chair seats I had in the 21k mile 88 F250 I sold a few weeks ago.

The air seats that some have installed look pretty good, but do to the material changes and such, I think the truck will look better if my front and rear seats match and I already know that I like the 4th gen seats, just need to find a nice set.

I always found the 06-09 seats to be a big downgrade from what was offered in 03-05. Maybe new cushions would help that, or going to 03-05 style seats.

My seats are very basic, they recline and move forward/backward.
I really prefer 8-10 way adjustable seats with good bolstering and heat. I’ve never had the ventilation option before, but it also might be a good option.

How do you feel about the 14-18 seats?

I love my 18 seats. They are heated/cooled and very comfortable. The truck isn’t fatiguing even on 12+ hour days.

I never liked the seats in dads 06 which were electric with 6 way adjustable settings.

I bought my 05 used, it was 3 years old with 10K miles on it. The guy sold it because it would put his left leg to sleep. No issues for me, even on several 14+ hour days. They were the basic all manual seat. I did start using a lumbar pillow towards the end, and had to replace the lower cushion.

Yeah,I wish I had the buckeroos for some Katskins.
A guy I met had his '05 seats done with Katskins. Before his seats lacked comfort like my '07.
