Hi All -

I wanted to give an update on my latest trip South. We took the same route from Wenatchee to Klamath Falls, Hwy 97 and into Northern CA. But this time rather than taking Hwy 99 South, we stayed on I-5 all the way to I-210 and then to I-10. It worked out great!

Plenty of well spaced Rest Area's for all of us (my wife, dogs and me), never a concern about fuel (not that there was on 99) and a breeze traffic wise.

Hopefully the trip home will be as smooth! Take care and safe travels - Marty

Personally HATE I-5 South of Sacramento to the grapevine. LOTS of lousy road conditions. The Grapevine can be a real cluster-F depending on time of day. Truckers pulling in front of you and CRAZY cars. Also I-5 along that section services are few and far between if ya have an issue.

Like I mentioned above, 99 Sacramento to Bakersfield then 58 up Tehachapi Pass to Barstow then South 15-215-10 East to PalmSprings is by far my choice.

MRoberts you must have been lucky and did not have bad traffic.

Traffic wasn't an issue at all, we left on Friday to Klamath Falls, Saturday to Santa Nella and Sunday to Palm Springs.

Honestly one of the primary reasons we tried this route was the truckers on 99! One would be doing 55 mph and another would pass at 58 mph, it seemed like a two mile pass! By lousy road conditions, do you mean the actual roadway? I remember the truck lane being beat up in a few areas from Santa Nella to PS, but overall I thought the roads were great.

That is caused by the ridiculous 55 MPH speed limit in Comifornia, for trucks and autos with trailers.
