Hello , I am at sea working in the Gulf of Mexico . My wife drives a 2017 3500 DRW megacab which currently has just over 100,000miles . The DEF gauge suddenly dropped from 1/4 tank to empty and triggerred the limp mode warning in x amount of miles... so she pulled over at the next oportunity and put 5 gallons of DEF in it . This did not register on the gauge ... it still reads empty . The CEL came on and she drove it home . She emailed me so I started researching on line to see if I could get an idea of common failure modes ... I had her take it to Autozone to scan the codes and got P203B and P203F . They cleared the codes afterward and she drove home . The CEL came back up but not the warning of impending limp mode . Now I know what the codes mean P203F is LOW reluctant (DEF) and P203B is reluctant sensor range/performance . So I'm assuming the two codes together mean that the sender failed somehow and the truck thinks the tank is empty .
I was very surprised to find that there is very little discussion on TDR about this issue (typing in the codes in search resulted in zero results)that I could find other than "take it to the dealer and get bent over to the tune of 2100 bucks for a new tank assembly . I found another post where clearing the codes helped but in our case , no. I hated to sell my 2006 5.9 and get a new truck with the emission junk for this very reason but , here I am. If anyone has thoughts on this I'm all ears , I'm going to have a friend go over to the house tomorrow and try to clean the electrical connection going to the sender (if it's accessable) because the wife did drive through high water recently . Curious as to what's involved with deleting the SCR system also ... can't seem to find any info on that either. Internet out here is very slow so it's pretty painful trying to research this.
Thanks , Rich
