I have not seen a Ford failure for quite a while now.
I have read that Ford stopped using the CP4. No idea if that is so.

Yesterday, a guy from Alabama popped up on another forum claiming CP4 failure on a 2019 with 7K miles. Says dealer said fuel sample OK. Naturally, skeptical at this point. He did post photo of the truck on a rollback, not that that means anything.

There is a B10 Life on everything that is designed or some other % of failure rate. It is not to good to be on the failure end of the component life but manufactures and design teams need a target life. When I was designing we always used a B10 life for any component. What the % of failure rate means that some components will fail early in the service life of that component and this is expectable.

No one could to afford to purchase any thing if the failure rate (B% life) that was expectable was Zero.

11 pages and I didn’t see a failure. Great information, but I guess I will go first. 2019 2500 with 3,634 miles. CP4 is dead. Attached is the initial paperwork from the dealer and a picture of the pump that was attached. I believe this is where the in pump screen in installed. Fuel never went below 1/4 and I run Stanadyne blue. Lead time for parts is currently at 2-3 months with Dodge corporate working to expedite.

Welcome to the club... You are unofficially the President. I started this thread with optimism the day after my 2019 special order was delivered. Hoped to never hear anything but good stuff but..... Here we go. I've been running OptiLube XPD in hopes of keeping the pump lubricated since day one, Stanadyne adds some lubricity as well. It's just safe to say that the CP4 is a POS that can't be trusted. Lift pump or not... Bad design. Surprised Cummins would even use that pump after all the problems it's given other auto manufactures. Bosch should have taken note of what Industrial Injection does to a CP3 to achieve higher flow/pressures instead of adding another piston to an already junk pump (hence CP4.1/CP4.2). Oddly.... My wife's 2014 Audi Q5 TDI has a CP4.1 in it with 88k miles and not a hiccup (I told her she's driving on borrowed time and when it goes it won't be worth repairing). I'm betting there are a few more 2019 CTD Rams out there that have failed... Just those owners are not on the forums. Some people are not that deep in the working guts of their vehicles and just "take it to service" when a CEL comes on or whatever. We here at TDR like guts and happy rigs.

I’m still not convinced this is is a huge plaque...yet. Could be just a single failure. Heck, even a report of one or two more wouldn’t have the hair on the back of my neck standing up yet.

But I do appreciate this report silverjay. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the TDR.

For my 99 I would add a 2 Stroke oil to the fuel (The smallest bottle used to add to one gallon of gas when mixing for a chainsaw) to add in lubrication of the VP44. Not sure if that would be a good idea on these new CP4s. My VP44 lasted to the day the truck was destroyed by a semi with over 197K miles. I believe it would still be working if not for the semi.

The CP4.2 would like it - but your exhaust SCR system not, you would clog it. Big $$$$ to replace. Go with DIESEL KLEEN, that's approved by Cummins.

I use to dump a quart of Lucas synthetic low ash 2-Stroke oil in with every fill up on my 06', On my 19' I use OptiLube XPD.

Well, first I'm new to the forum. 2019 Ram 2500 4X4. Good info here, so thanks for a great place to read. I've had four other diesels, all Fords going back to 1987. This is my first Ram.
Now the bad. Last Friday I was on a trip with the Ram about 700 miles from home when she died. Towed into the closest dealer to learn that the CP4 had blown and metal shavings were all through the fuel system. The service writer showed me the pump and it looks like Silverjays pics above. My truck had just turned 3800 miles. I had to get back home due to the Apple Fire and the truck is at a dealership 700 miles away. As of today, no work has been done as the dealer had to elevate the issue to corporate. No idea when the truck will be repaired. The service writer told me mine is not the first one they have seen like this. I will advise how the repairs are performed and\if they replace the pump with a CP3.

Sorry for your trouble. Please keep us up to date on your repair.

At least FCA is supposedly on top of this and hopefully correcting the issue before the lawsuits start coming like Ford and GM... You think the MCM guys would have at least known the CP4 was crap before giving it the green light.

There's a valid Reason Ford Dsl are a rare site at Professional Levels, Because their last at the event and the first to leave.

I'm not here to argue, but don't kid yourself. Ford sells more heavy duty diesel pickups and medium duty than RAM does. There are vastly more Ford 550 Powerstrokes than RAM 5500 Cummins trucks.
