Question:
I bought my truck in January 2019 and was not offered the factory extended warranty but instead offered an independent extended warranty through the dealership. Can I go back and get the factory extended warranty? I think they charged me $2500 or so .......

Might depend on the terms of the warranty and also state law and what state you are in.

1) Some warranty terms say that if you have not used anything from your extended warranty in the first year, you can get a full refund. Since you are likely under bumper-to-bumper manufacturer warranty, you likely have not used anything unless you used roadside service or rental car?

2) After one year and if you have not used any provisions of your warranty, you may be able to get a pro-rated amount back.

3) If your extended warranty has paid for ANYTHING (rental car, or any service), you can't expect anything back. Once they put out money, you have fully activated your warranty in a way that you can not get any of your premium back.

Your dealership may not assist you with this. You will likely need to read your warranty terms and show the warranty company where the terms say you can get part or all of your money back. You may also need to see if your state has any laws governing warranties, because sometimes their terms just give you money back because the law says you get money back.

When one of my payments was late, when I spread out the $1000 payments over 12 months, they threatened to charge me a fee or cancel my warranty. I reminded them that their terms say that if they cancel my warranty, I get all my money back, and they immediately retracted their threats. The "money back within a year" thing was a big selling point to get stupid people like me to fall for their mortgage gimmick.

That’s real unfortunate. You’d figure they’d want to keep everything in house? I guess finance makes more with the aftermarket plan.
Just a FYI to anyone, and I’m not sure how a CTD would do in this situation, but a coworker leased (3yr) a ‘14 Durango like mine, and when he decided to buy it out, he applied for Max Care at that time, and though he paid a lot more than I did, he was still able to get it.

I had max care on a 2015 ED. Saved my butt by over 3 times what it cost, around 2k.
Negotiations on our new but 2 year old 2018 CTD in December included a line in the sand. Throw in 8yr 125k max care or I'm out. They came back yes but 200.00 deductible.
Glad I got a 2018. She's noisy but last of the cast iron workhorses.

Thanks Guys! Got it all handled and now have the full Mopar Factory Warranty 8yr 125,000 mile and $100 deduct. Took a hit as the independent warranty prorated my refund from 3454. to 2994.09. (eg assurance plan) was for 7yr 75,000. The best i do on the factory warranty was 4100. after the fact. Lesson learned. next new vehicle ill be working the factory warranty into the deal. But i least feel a little better with the mopar warr. one thing i can hope for is if I never use the warranty FCA will refund the full amount back to me. :) what are the odds on that? hahahaha

May I ask....... Did the dealer assist you with that?

And a comment, I got taken for $1000 in 1998 on a warranty plan that refused to fix anything. We all live and learn from our mistakes. But on this forum, I get pretty good advice about what to look out for.

No
I called Ram customer service then called the independent company and canceled
Didn’t waste my time with the dealership

Has anyone else had fuel pump problems? My HP pump failed on Sunday and pushed metal through the entire system. Dodge has directed the dealership to replace the fuel system and there are no parts available for 2-3 months. They refuse to discuss engine damage stating it is impossible for metal to get through the injectors. Attached is pic of the fuel pump the dealership sent me. They have an engine in stock with all the parts needed already on it, but refuse to put that in so far.

I have been told that the supplier for the fuel pump also supplies GM and is having major failure issues. I can’t verify that other than being told that.

Any similar experience/thoughts/guidance? Truck is 5 months old with 3,800 miles on it.

The pump failure is real. Bought a new truck at Harry Blackwell Monday afternoon. Wednesday afternoon truck quit in Canton TX. Chrysler Roadside left us for six hours on the side of the road. Never did send a wrecker. We finally called Benson Brothers who towed it in to Sulphur Springs Dodge the next morning, who later confirmed pump failure. They are waiting on STAR whoever that is to tell them whether to put in a new fuel system or new engine. Blackwell has bent over backwards to help us. Rented us a vehicle so we aren’t stranded. They said on Monday they will have us another truck to use until ours is fixed. They said they are being told it will be mid November before parts are available. Chrysler ‘ s always been a crap company with crap service but they had the bulletin proof Cummings. At least they still have a few decent dealers like Harry Blackwell who put service above profit. They even offered to send a truck to pick up our truck and trailer and bring it back to Dexter MO so they could repair it for us. Through all this, love the truck with the Aisin transmission and air tract.

Chrysler roadside required 2 calls to finally get a flatbed when our ED died in Wyoming.
Definite problem with the service but all was paid.
Keep us updated on the pump.

Oh the warranty woes.... I didn't get any extra on my 2012 when we bought it. It wasn't worth the headaches to use it if I ever needed it. But how good it is depends on the dealer as farawayranch stated. Doesn't matter who the dealer is around Cheyenne, they all stink worse than a fresh squished skunk on a hot day. I found a good local shop I take ours to if they need something I don't have the equipment or time to do. Wife bought the extra warranty on her 2015, it needed a new radiator right after we got it home. Dealer we bought it from is in Longmont, due to weather, work and their service department being horrible at answering a phone call (Really busy, not negligence) she got the dealer in Laramie to work on it. Won't go into that mess.... In the end the warranty didn't cover much of anything so we cancelled it. Hopefully they get something figured out on how to cure these CP 4.2 problems before they get out of hand.

comrade - dont bother with either boulder or the dealer in golden either.... no one wants to do anything right anymore. sad to hear about the dealers in wy and longmont. longmont was going to be my next choice. scratch that! cheers - :)

I would actually go buy from the dealer in Longmont again, the sales guy wasn't pushy, made a point of giving us a chance to talk about the purchase between ourselves, the finance guy was really level and not pushy, and they even had the shop manager go over the truck's maintenance history with us since they had done all the work on it. He actually went to the service department and had it ready to set up and take care of us in 30 min, but it was in December and the weather didn't allow for it to happen. Our dealer here in Cheyenne has changed management twice in the last 6 months, the one in Laramie had me so mad with the radiator business I don't know how long it will be before I can be civil with them again. The service experience was so bad I was looking for a trailer to haul my wife's pickup down to Longmont since they had it apart and the parts for 2 weeks. The dealer in Laramie didn't tighten all the bolts they were supposed to either, like the battery clamp bolts. And cut holes in the front wheel well liners, those are fun to replace. Suffice to say we piled some miles on the loaner as a thank you. :D The only issue with the dealer in Longmont was they had a huge volume of vehicles going through their service department, which led to them being backed up and overwhelmed.

good info comrade. been looking at property around laramie. maybe the dealer there will clean itself up over time? colorado is a long way from what it used to be 30 years ago, and the legal weed thing has ruined whats left of this state. cheers!

What repair was underway that required cutting holes in the wheel well liners......and why did they not remove them instead? Totally baffled here as to WHY they’d CUT and NOT remove them...

Changing oil! Drivers side was from a first day on the job tech, and passengers from the guy that took over when first guy could not locate the oil filter.

nukegm: I hope that dealer will, I heard they changed hands a few months ago. I liked Laramie area, would like living there if I could make enough money to pay my bills. Spent my college time there till graduation. So far it's hard to compete with the day linehaul run I have and will likely keep here in Cheyenne.

gsbrockman: I was as baffled they did that as you are. I've never ever pulled a radiator that required cutting anything. Maybe removal, so choice words and creativity. Never had experienced that level of lazy before, but close to it. Looking it over, I see no reason in the slightest why they did that.

SnoKing: I am certain you just nailed their thought process on the head.

maybe the dealer there will clean itself up over time? !

I have folk that have bought vehicles from both GM and Chrysler in the Laramie area dating back to the early 80's with mediocre results at best. Most if not all of the corporate owned dealerships come from Commorado anyhoo, so may as well just clear the air, take a deep breath and buy from where ya are :D ;)
