99 24v, got it kid had injector pump messed up, I have a running 2000 so I've swapped my lift pump, injector pump, injectors, only way to get it to start when it is cold is with starting fluid have to do it a few times before it starts to idle roughly on its own then after about 10 mins of running it starts to smooth out, then will idle and run, its has heavy white smoke out the exhaust gets worse when you rev it, not losing oil pretty sure its getting fuel in the oil because the oil level is rising, not loosing coolant so I don't believe its a head gasket, anyone have any idea on what it could be,

Sounds like a cylinder down to me. Temp gun the exhaust manifold and see if there’s one that‘s not warm.

They are almost the same cylinder 3 and 6 are about 10° cooler but after it kinda warms up it seems to run ok, with a bad cylinder wouldn't it have a miss and run choppy,

You indicate that it is making oil. Have you changed it since you bought it? Maybe it was making oil with the old messed up pump. It sounds like it is timed really slow. Is it possible the messed up pump was caused by the pump gear off a tooth, or the wrong key for the application?

Without prior knowledge of what was done, not done by previous owner, it is real hard to know where to start diagnostics.

No haven't changed the oil but I remember the oil level was perfect when I unloaded it off the trailer before I started working on it, I read that the key to motor difference isn't what matters its key to pump, i wondered if the pump gear could be off a tooth but don't know how it would of happened, it didn't mover when I swapped pumps, I even swapped both computers off the good truck thinking maybe one was fried, I do have code p1690 come and go but its not on all the time and truck runs the same when its not throwing the code

I forgot about the key.

Also, did you use new cross-over tubes and/or o-rings? Did you reseal the injectors, new washers and o-rings?

Are you sure it is a '99 and not a 98.5? Did you use the connector tubes from the 99 or from the donor truck? The reason I ask, is, I understand the 98.5 connector tubes don't fit/match the later model injector bodies.

Yes, it happens. You should be able to check it by taking off the nut and using a mirror, take a look see.

Yea keyway is about 45° off from the slot in the gear, man 3 days of trying to figure it out and a few hundred dollars later it was a free fix
