I've seen a bad load of fuel stop up a new filter. Any time there's a fuel issue, first thing to do is change the filter.
Second this. You might've picked up a load of algae which will clog a filter with ease. But on the other hand, you could've picked up a load of fuel that had abnormally high levels of asphaltenes which will also plug up a fuel filter.
The last couple times my '98 turned into a Rolls-Kinnardly (rolls down one hill, can hardly make it up the next), it was because my fuel filter change was overdue and not enough fuel could get to the engine.
