Could use some help. 2020 3500 HO Cummins won’t start. Just a single click. Barely over 1k miles. Voltage reading over 12 volts.
A very quick message pops up some times. Not every time, saying service fuel filter after the click.

Sometimes a quick message pops up about throttle body. Both messages flash so quickly that if you’re not focusing on the dash you won’t even see them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Check and clean your battery connections. Don’t just look at them, pull them off one at a time and clean them. I’ve seen lots and lots of crappy battery connections cause dumb issues like this over the years. You could also have a bad battery.

Evrything is clean enough to eat off of. Still brand new. Barely over 1,000 miles. Checked all battery connections. Everything thing is tight.

Clean looking doesn’t mean it’s ok. Like I’ve said, I’ve seen lots of bad battery connections. You’ve described classic symptoms of a bad battery or connection.

The is got SEP, Someone Else's Problem, written all over it. Like it's a dealer warranty problem.

We don't know how long it sat on the lot with dead batteries. Being dead awhile ruins em. A common problem with new vehicles.

It’s actually at the house. Going to have it towed to garage tomorrow if unable to figure out.

Shouldn't the Roadside Assist at least try to fix it at your place?
And that in a timely manner within an hour or so?

Have a tow truck for, maybe, just a drained battery seems a little bit extreme.
And waiting days for it too.

I was trying to figure it out with out having it hauled to the dealer and be without my truck for god bows how long?

I did remove wires from all terminals, cleaned with terminal brush, connected a battery tender on both batteries while they were disconnected. Left on tenders over night. Both batteries read 12.5 volts after tenders were removed.
Double checked everything was clean, reconnected all wires.
Still just a click.
Truck was picked up this afternoon and taken to dealership.
Will update when I get word from dealer.

Thank you to everyone that replied.

Bad batteries can read 12vdc + until you put a load on them. That is why I said to put a meter on the battery and try to start while watching the meter. Last set of batteries I had read 12.5vdc then dropped to 5 when trying to start.

Another simple way to check batteries is the turn on the head lights and try to start it while someone is watching the head lights. If they dim out, you have a bad battery.

After 2 trips back to dealer on a flat bed. They finally decided that the drivers side battery was bad.
The first time they claimed it was fixed they said the batteries just needed topped off.
The very next morning it was being loaded on a flat bed again.
Fingers crossed, it’s been starting without any issues.

The dealers have a process with batteries that requires a specific tester be used. The tester has to print out a report with a code number, that code is sent to Corporate and when approved a code is sent back to the dealer authorizing the warranty replacement. The report, the code and the techs narrative is all sent to corporate for payment.A complicated process that few people have seen behind the scenes.
